regarding the selection theory you guys came up with. I mean it might be that, but it would be kinda weird, because the story is that the royal family had recently(relatively) died out from some mysterious disease and now they are having this selection to get a new monarch and start a new royal line. with your theory that would mean that the previous rulers were also the same way, which kinda seems far fetched, but still possible. This coming from a guy who has watched the entirety of the anime and read the novels up to the point of what would be the middle of season 3. and regarding the witches and that whole thing, simply said you'll find out much more details in season 2, but at least watch the frozen bond OVA/movie before starting season 2, it gives a loooot of context to emilia and her situation in season 2, it's a prequel/backstory for her. The other OVA, that is much more of an OVA, i.e. silly and goofy, memory snow can be skipped, but has a loooot of subtle hints to everything, but as said that can be skipped. it just gives context to a scene(the very last one) in the frozen bond movie
