You still only get one new ep weekly.

I just upgraded to the highest tier last week. There are two episodes listed for The Expanse at this tier. Do we get two new ones each week or is it just one new ep reaction each week only that puts you four weeks ahead of YouTube but they just list the two most recent uploads? Just curious if anyone can clarify. Honestly I'm just happy they're doing this show finally and I upgraded from the second tier specifically to get The Expanse reactions early for now lol.

Yup. Motion is relative. Travelling at 100,000 kph, you'll still feel "weightless" if the ship you're in is also at 100,000 kph. Einstein's equivalence principle is basically that acceleration and gravity are the same thing. Being in a box accelerating at 1g through space is indistinguishable from being in a box at rest on Earths surface.

A universal basic income is more than just existing, the point is you can play a proper active role in society including taking vacations, having hobbies etc, if you buy into that kind of thing, it's beyond things like fairly normal standard unemployment benefits. Basic Assistance in the universe is actually less than what we'd consider standard normal unemployment etc benefits. That's the difference. I don't think it came about in the universe because the UN just decided to as you see calls for in this world, I think it came about due to a combination of overpopulation and automation vastly reducing the amount of available work, especially in unskilled trades but also through the whole stack, which is something that gets progressively worse as time goes on. Actually at that stage would probably happen is money would lose value, in a tightly integrated globalist utopia like the expanse universe you'd need an entirely new economic system, what you'd probably end up with is like the Expanse just a horrible mess.

Garrett, it seems like the UN implemented UBI without making an attempt to solve the problems that caused UBI to be a thing in the first place. The Expanse gives a cautionary tale that such programs shouldn't be implemented just to put a band aid on a problem. The later seasons kind of address that issue.

Chaos T

That was my thoughts. Ships consistently have to burn for some form of gravity to exist and The Expanse is pretty consistent about showing the viewer this process. Calvin should also be given way more credit than he does by the crew for knowing science. He was pretty spot on with most of his scientific commentary.

Chaos T

So its Universl Basic Income..... Thats what UBI is. the difference here is it sounds like you dont get to choose, so in the show people have to get Food, Clothing or shelter where as in real life people would get taht money and use it on iphones, jewelry, and Beats by Dre.

You must be new

Are they going to start doing 4 episodes on new shows for the last tier? Because that would be cool.

no. 21’s no. 1 simp

Yeah, I wrestled with that a bit, but didn't think I was giving anything away plot-wise, just extending the world building a little. Some of this is revealed pretty early on in the books, and it doesn't have a lot of consequences, really. But I take your point. I always try to be mindful of spoiling things, and I will continue to do so. Thanks.

They didn't do Full Length back then.

TbcAlex

Yep.

I like this comment and the explanation of things, but be careful with spoilers or talking about stuff coming up.

Where can I find Daredevil S1 and 2 and Jessica Jones S1 full length reactions?

Oh, and Basic Assistance in the Expanse is not Universal Basic Income -- Basic Assistance is not money, it's basically food, shelter, clothing - the stuff you need for basic existence. It's enough to live on, but basically it's a pretty shitty existence. Martians, though, look down on Earthers; the stereotype is that Earthers on Basic are lazy and aimless -- the Martians call them "Takers" -- but the truth is there just isn't enough for them to do. There's a third population on Earth as well, people who basically live in an off-the-grid underground economy. They refuse Basic and its restrictions, procreating as they wish and living on barter and underground currency exchange. Those people are called "undocumented," and you'll eventually hear about them too. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the two guys who write The Expanse books and also work on the show (1x07 is actually the first episode of the TV show credited to them), are students of history as well as scientific things, and most of the political and sociological stuff you see in the show comes from that knowledge -- either things that have happened in the world before, or logical extrapolations of how things would probably go, given human history and human nature. It's pretty cool stuff, one of the reasons fans of this show are so dedicated and are always talking so much about authenticity.

Tony Camas

Guys, regarding the gravity discussion you had after The Expanse 1x7, you had the gist of it. The part you weren't getting was that a ship does not have to be doing a "flip" for gravity to be out. Just having the main engines off is enough. Thrust Gravity is caused by *acceleration*, not speed. Think of being in a car - if you step on the gas pedal and accelerate the car, that's when you feel yourself pushed back in the seat. Once you reach your travel velocity and are just coasting (on a highway, say) you no longer feel that force, no matter how fast you are going. Same thing goes with a ship in space, the gravity comes from acceleration, when the engines are running and constantly speeding the ship up (or slowing it down, if pointing the other way). When the Donnager was fired upon by the mystery stealth ships in 1x4, they hit and temporarily disabled the drive. This caused the acceleration to stop and the ship to drift (even though it was probably at very high speed), and that's why Holden & Naomi floated up and had to do that little maneuver. Also, not that it matters a whole lot but apparently ships in The Expanse accelerate at approximately 1/3 G, enough to keep everything secured and make it possible to walk around without mag boots, but not quite Earth gravity, which would burn 3 times as much fuel.

Tony Camas

I never asked for this. The guy who plays the spy is Adam Jensen from Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided

Legion

Can we pretty please replace One Punch Man with Gravity Falls?

Brandon Hughes

Isn't episode 7 titled "Windmills" and episode 8 titled "Salvage"?

Thanks guys!
