Kiritsugu used a origin round the 2nd time to trick Archibald into making an extremely powerful defense so he'd basically end up killing himself, since Archibald didn't know the origin rounds "poisoned" mages and thought he just had to block it the 2nd time around.

2020-08-04 14:43:17 +0000 UTCThe origin rounds are incredibly powerful and can't be stopped by a normal defensive barrier, which is why they pierced Kayneth's mercury-type liquid in the first place. Kiritsugu wanted Kayneth to use all of his mana in their second encounter, so by using another origin round, he forced Kayneth to use all of his mana for defence. So definitely calculated and not a waste :D
