Don't really remember that discussion. The only thing related tot this I remember is them seeing the actual opening later on and commenting on "Rob must have fucked with the OP without telling us." Nevertheless, much like you say, it comes to personal opinion. When it's like that, it stops being a matter of right or wrong, but how they want to go at it. As I'd personally say there's a strong argument to not skipping openings (or modifying them), and I actually remember reading once a study about how spoilers (not troll spoilers, but stull such as trailers/openings) actually enhance a story, because it makes the viewer ask themselves question and think about what they see, both in the "spoiler" and in the show as they move episode to episode. For example, if they watched the actual OP next week, they'd discover the existence of a number of characters, but that wouldn't have any real meaning until much later on, and instead would give extra context for discussion.

I see what you're saying. For me, I'd just prefer them to see everything they would see in the intro, in the context of the show first to see their reaction to the story presenting them the new revelations instead of the op, which can almost be, desensitizing them to characters they may not see for a couple of weeks. For example, in the second half of their season 3 reaction eric and rick noticed something in the intro and it seemed to lessen the experience for them when it came up in the show because they were able to speculate what was going to happen after seeing the op. Later in the discussion, they voiced their displeasure with anime's decision to put something like that in the op. In the end, I guess it comes down to why you want to watch the op and if you want to hype yourself up for what's to come in the anime, then the op does a good job of that but I never watch the intros till after the arc, because I wanna see new reveals first in the story rather then the op, and I'm sure its the same for them too. (especially since they are literally making money off of their reactions lol).

Since I don't consider them "real" spoilers, yes. Openings are calculated spoilers, in the same way trailers are. They show some things, but never when or how, and serve to create hype for the arc (or anime in general). The other time Rob commented that he did it mostly because Japan doesn't really work as we do with anime due to most people going in already knowing what happens, but I disagree quite a lot. One of the key uses anime has is to promote and direct new fans to the original work, so it's exactly the opposite; most anime is done for new fans, over "veterans," so openings are done already taking into account what they're showing to new fans. It's still his choice and opinion, though. So I'm guessing we won't see the new op for quiiiite a while.

I really hope they don’t mess with the opening too much. I always found seeing character designs as not really spoilery since you literally have no idea who they are. I actually always liked seeing intros like that because you could speculate on who they are going to be and if they are going to be a good guy or a bad guy
