I like this episode and, as much as I said previously that it's like the series finale to Series 11, as far as look and feel it has a lot more in common with Series 12. But, treating this like a finale, I'll say that I liked Series 11, but I didn't love it. I get the point of having a break from the familiar stories and characters from previous series, but when combined with a new writing team, show runner, Doctor, set of companions, music/composer, it was just a lot of change to digest all at once. The safe thing to do would've been to tweak things just a little bit, but that's not what Chibnall did and that's kinda ballsy. When you take that kind of risk, you have to expect a wide range of opinions, which is obviously the case with this series. Aaron won't comment on Series 12, but I will - keeping things non-spoilery - I think Series 12 is a definite improvement on Series 11. I can't wait to see what you guys think about it.

2020-04-16 02:58:01 +0000 UTCI 100% agree with you that S11 was a needed pallet cleanser after Moffat and heck, even after RTD. The show has been pretty much been dialed up to 10 and it I think we need a series or two that dials it a back. The Doctor needed a series where they could just sit back and go on crazy space adventures and not have anything tragic happen to their new found fam.

As Eric says, it didn't really feel like the Doctor Who we know but I've always thought that was intentional, a pallet cleanser after the Moffat era. I'm so excited for their reactions to S12!
