MELRON Doctor Who 12x04 POLL!!!

What is your favorite aspect of Chibnall's series so far?

Comments

I do really enjoy "The Fam" 😂 they gel so well with each other, Graham and Ryan are like two peas in a pod with me, you can't have one without the other and I also get like a brother-sister relationship with Yas and Ryan. You can tell that all three are very comfortable when going on all these adventures with The Doc. I feel like these three are the companions I'd rather journey with over the companions.

STEAMY_DA_GOD

I'm still having a hard time connecting with Ryan and Graham, I don't know why I just tend to get more annoyed at them than anything. I'm having a hard time answering the poll as well because i havn't really loved any part so far, which i find really sad but thats my honest feelings toward DW at the moment, there has been definate potential but i tend to feel more let down than anything.

Harry Utton

I stared at the poll for about 5 minutes and realised I couldn't pick any because all are flawed to me. That's actually scary. I find Jodie wooden and 1 dimensional, an annoying, gurning, face scrunching waste of time. I find the companions utterly meh, outside of Graham I have zero opinions on them, they have no character or any interesting development. I find the stories dull, not even bad, just boring. I find it such a struggle to finish each episode. I've never looked at the time so much as I have during these last 2 series. The monsters are all forgettable, only the new incarnation of The Master shows any promise. I know there is so much awful trolling hate about the current show, and I don't wanna be lumped in with them. But I genuinely dont recognise this once great show anymore.

Michael Harrop

Jodie seems to be fully coming into The Doctor this season and The Doctor can make or break a season for me. Capaldi had bad writing but his acting made some of his seasons my favourite. If the other companions felt more like people rather than dialogue machines this season could actually be good.

Jonathon Gray

I’ve gone for Other. There are too many companions, the Doctor hasn’t had many chances to shine, the monsters have been a little lacklustre and I miss the high concept stories of old. However, I think the production values have been largely great, with lots of atmospheric overseas filming, and the cinematography has been quite nice too.

Spiderfrommars

Other to say none

James

I said Stories, but I meant more specifically the historicals, which are a huge strenght of the Chibnall era so far, way better than any historical we've seen in New Who so far - I'd even say, they haven't been this good since the First Doctor's era, back in the 60s. I enjoy everything on this list a lot, but the historicals are the best part for me because they really set this era apart from what came before. Also, the cinematography. I honestly never thought Who would look so good.

Kevin Gil

People are unfairly harsh to series 11. I love the shift in story tone, especially the historicals.

Grant Lawson

The Doctor first, the companions second. I like Jodie's Doctor and I can't wait to see where she takes the character. The companions are funny and I like going back to a more classic who format of having a group of companions rather than just one.

Jeanette C

To be honest, I chose the companions. I think that 3 is too many for the way the stories are written, if one of them was only an occasional companion like River was with Amy and Rory, I think it'd work better. I'd like to just have Graham and Ryan as the only companions, I think the relationship and banter between the two would work well. Yaz would be a good single companion for another Doctor, but I don't think she works well with what we have now. I wish I could say I loved the Doctor, but she has yet to become the Doctor to me, came closer in this episode than in previous ones but not quite. She needs a story where she has to take control and be a bad ass, not rely on companions or other people to do stuff while she stands around. Honestly, I'm not sure she could pull off something like the episode Heaven Sent which was just the Doctor alone but I'd like to see her get the chance to try.

Sougent

I like Jodie a lot as a doctor, she does a really good job of playing a genuinely Kind doctor. the companions also have their own genuine charm, and while I still maintain that I would have preferred it to be a series with just Graham and Grace as companions, I think the stories they try to accomplish with the three we have work preeeetty well... for the most part. I still have hope for this season, they recovered a bit of my faith with this week's episode, but I'm still just in the ballpark of being hopeful

Zane

oh fuck off

Other: The title sequence and the current version of the theme is top tier. Jodie is fine as the Doctor. The stories does hardly engage me at all.

Opti_Frog

I chose 'companions', because even though I feel like they haven't been done justice by the writing just yet (although series 12 is doing that MUCH better), I feel like the actors have a lot of charm, so I find the companions incredibly likeable. Yaz especially, she's the most underwritten, but the way Mandip Gill plays her makes me love the character

I chose other: Love the new feel of the show, and how ballsy some of its stories have been (Rosa/ Demons of the Punjab). It’s a huge step up in production values, and feels like a new show, but if you aren’t going to do that after 13 years on the air, you’re going to get stale. If this new style isn’t for everyone, they shouldn’t worry. The next show runner will have their own take, and you may like that. If not, you’ve got all of Classic, Big Finish (the audio dramas), Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures etc. It’s the beauty of a show that is fundamentally built on change.

Andrew

I have to admit series 11 wasn't for me. It felt removed from the Doctor Who mythos so much so it didn't feel like the same show alot of the time, it juggled the new Doctor and 3 companions ineffectively meaning the companions weren't fleshed out enough (especially yaz) and the Doctor wasn't the lead of her own show. The story's weren't particularly strong apart from a couple of stand outs (Rosa, Kerblam and the witchfinders jump to mind) and personally I felt like there were bits of potential but they weren't capitalised on by the end of it. This series so far for me has been much better. It feels just involved enough with its own mythos, and the characters feel like they are getting better served by the stories. The Doctor feels more involved and the balance between her being whimsical and serious is more natural. I still don't think this era will be one I personally have much attachment to in the future but credit where it's due this series has raised the stakes, the monsters feel more threatening and our hero's feel more involved.

Martin Taylor

I like the Doctor, it's fun seeing her evolve in this season, much like Twelve did over his run. So far only a few stories have been really solid, and the Master was the only really interesting villain. Graham is a great companion, but Ryan and Yaz need to step it up imo.

CrossZ

gotta be honest, none of these have been great yet, so the jurys still out

Thomas Joy

The Doctor, I love Jodie, I think she's doing fantastic, I also loved the two part premiere and this most recent episode. Ep. 3 was okay, not the best, but the rest have been amazing.

CarlyCChapman

Is the Doctor Who 10x12 reaction on it's way?

Oh fuck off

CarlyCChapman

Others above have already perfectly put my thoughts to words, so I'm actually going to point at that above everything else, I'm actually enjoying the music of this era; epic and emotive. A shame the scripts are not matching its scope...

Axis 77

Honestly, this show is only as good as its stories. And they are only about 35% as engaging as any Moffat script.

Ism Zam

I agree, 100%.

Andrew W

I went with other but only because I don't have a favourite aspect of this era. The Doctor lacks depth, there's too many companions for me to get attached to one of them let alone all three, the stories are mediocre and boring most of the time and the monsters are forgettable leaving no lasting impression. I don't hate this era, but there isn't a whole lot I like from it either. It's a bit like Davison's era from the early 80s, although his era did have more interesting stories.

Lucas

Definitely not the monsters. The villains and their motivations are the worst part of it all for me... For now I'm gonna vote companions (as I really like Graham and Ryan, still waiting for Yaz to get some meaty stuff) and I'm awaiting to see more of the Doctor's darker sides.

I've been wanting more companions, like in classic Who ever since the series (Eccelston forward) started, and I like all three of them.

Kevin Bartelen

i completely agree, i do not like the doctors accent/tone, and when she tries to act bad ass or cool , it comes across really cringy. and she dosnt have the same doctor feel as Tennant, Smith and Capaldi. she just sounds cringe. LOL

The companions are terrible, the story's are not as good, The Doctor is meh at the moment, and the way the episodes are produced is making me struggle to connect with it.

Thomas Newell

I like the simplicity of the episodes; Moffat's later series became very complex and tied up in its own mythology. These allow some good sci-fi examination of human condition; race, gender, religion, environmentalism, consumerism etc etc.

Ged_UK

Graham. If the show was called Graham and singularly was about him I would watch it with the same amount of enthusiasm if not more.

lewis is your patron

Personally my favourite thing so far from the Chibnall era is the production quality. Doctor Who has never looked more beautiful IMO. The sets, the visual effects and camera shots all are leagues ahead of the previous series overall

Starkiller100

My favourite thing about Chibnall's series is that it has allowed everyone to see how terrible the series has been for a while now, and people are turning away from it in droves.

Jon Dub

Honestly keep comin back for those Graham moments. But I think we may need to reaffirm who the doctor is now and the relationships with the companions.

Gavin Hardiman

I am fascinated by Chibnall reverence for history. Others show runners saw it as a playground but he sees it as a monument. He struggles with zaniness but do well when touching on somber aspect or period of history.

Doby Greg

Not companions, just Graham.

The stories for sure. Contrasting to Moffat's purposefully confusing storytelling in order to make the script seem smarter than it actually was, and making up a final episode paradox that fixes all the plotholes every other season, Chibnalls simple é effective (specially in the more emotional e human episodes) are a breath of fresh air. He might not get it right every episode but overall I'm loving it.

This was definitely the best we’ve seen of Jodie’s Doctor. She balanced the “excited child” aspect from season 11, with a much darker side that was so severely lacking in last seasons episodes

JamesA

Don't see how anyone in the UK can enjoy Graham all of his dialouge is corny. Every other word is some cocky slang, that no1 really uses. He sounds like an American's idea of a Londoner.

Matthew Knell

Thirteen isn't my fave Doctor, but I really enjoy Jodies performance.

Red Claw

Jodie's Doctor is great, I just dont like how Chibnall just seems to want to do "horror" stories that arent really that good. The cast is great, season premier double was good, but the rest is just kinda meh.

BrokeHighMan

I legitimately can't answer that, and that's kinda scary...

The Doctor

A highlight for me is the cinematography. Just those vistas shot on anamorphic lenses (new to the show) all in rich, high contrast colour. Say what you want about the writing, these visuals are pretty much always on point!

Lono

I'm going to say other, because The Doctor hasn't exactly been written brilliantly either. It's basically just Graham (overall) and Jodie's acting with what little she's been given.

Amazingchi

I really like Jodie's doctor, even if she hasn't been given as good material as previous Doctors. Also shout out to the new effects. I love how this era's TARDIS travels through the time vortex, reminds me of Doctor Strange's multiverse.

ElBilbo

The doctor is the only character that is constantly good for me. Companions can sometimes feel wasted, same with the stories and monsters.

Ethan Prendergast

Stories have some potential but I think we have yet to see incredible writing yet. There’s something there but the execution has not been consistent. By far the best part, for me at least, has been seeing Jodie find her interpretation of the Doctor. And I love she is exploring some traits to the core being of the Doctor that have not been touched on that much.

John M

I feel a lot of the moments so far, specifically the ones of just the Doctor and one other person (i.e. a companion, the master, etc) have been written quite well. We get to see THE DOCTOR in those scenes. Jodie’s performance and dialogue delivery are one of the highlight for me. Hopefully we get to see a bit more range from her in the coming weeks. I wanna see her get angry damn’it.

AdDifferent

I think the Doctor's been the most consistently enjoyable part- even in the bad episodes! Jodie tries really hard I feel with the material she's given, and when she has good material, she's really, really good!

WhoviVortex

I've found myself enjoying the episodes more whenever the companions are off-screen, so that says all you need to know.

The monsters this season have been pretty great.

Evan!!

The doctor. Because everything else has been a bit rubbish
