Those two techniques were how animators made magic happen before computers and the Iike. The season 2 opening is one of the best of any anime. And season 2 has some of the best animation I've ever seen.

The psychic stuff is cool, but man I love so many of these characters I've met so far (anime only watcher here). Everyone needs a Body Improvement Club in their lives.
