Attack on Titan 3x18 Poll!

Considering information only available up until Season 3 Episode 18, which character would you have given the syringe to?

Comments

I look at it like i look at building a basketball team. If im looking to the future, im taking armin based on potential to be erwin or better. But i feel as if we are in win now mode so im taking erwin since he is what we hope armin will develop into so we might as well just go with the established asset

Erwin was cracking and it was showing. The guilt of his comrades' death, for the sake of his finding out the truth, weighed too heavy on him. I think Levi knew this as well, he chose Armin because he felt bad for Erwin and wanted to let him rest. It wasn't a rational decision but rather an emotional one, for both Eren, Mikasa and Levi as well.

Jules Eris

Erwin also had a no-casualty streak when he was under Shadis right? Erwin leads more people, so of course Armin's plans end up with more survivors. It's like saying one of them is definitively smarter by comparing test results from different different tests. I think they're pretty much equal. Armin just happens to be in the right place at the right time for the flashy reveals. Like when he just happens to be next to Annie to see she has Marco's gear. Or when he confirms that Reiner was a traitor when he was already suspicious, based off information gained from a plan Erwin devised. Also, I trust Hange's judgement of their skills the most out of anyone there. Even Mikasa gave up and accepted Erwin as the better choice. That said, I definitely think Armin will surpass Erwin, and Erwin was nearing his breaking point. Erwin's the better choice for immediate action. Armin is the better investment for future conflict.

Shion

I still think part of it was like subconscious rejection as well.

MOB12

You can't trust a devil with the power of the Colossal Titan.

Alberto Sanchez

Erwin definitely. Yes it’s true that Armin is smart. But he only lived upped to it when the Commander and his friends pushed him to take responsibility. Armin is too hesitant and easily compassionate where tough decisions needed to be made. Erwin has the experience and does the necessary tasks. I feel Armin would try to save everyone and doom humanity. Who else could convince you to sacrifice yourself when there is no other option.? RAAAAAAGE!

Gavin Hardiman

I think Armin was probably the right choice, but if it were up to me I’d have chosen Erwin. There just wasn’t enough time to think it through and make an entirely rational decision.

SladeClegane

Would he? Seems to me there's a good chance that, after the battle was over and the path to the basement clear, he would've been willing to sacrifice Armin in order to live and fulfill his dream.

Username

Erwin would've wanted Armin to be saved anyway.

HybridThizzle

Erwin believed in Armin's potential, saw the leader he could become it seemed logical to save him over Erwin.

Kali Mbata

Tbh it's as simple as Erwin said on a previous episode this season i believe, something along the lines of "eren might be our greatest weapon, but they don't know of our second one, Armin's mind"

Eduardo Zatarain

Erwin might have been the better leader but most of his plans amounted to throwing as many bodies as possible at the titans. Armin's plans always lead to more survivors in the end. Plus, they often lead to more discoveries than Erwin's.

coffeemilk

If you're thinking logically, it should obviously be Erwin. He has far more experience and leadership capability than Armin. My vote's for Erwin, but with that said, from a moral standpoint, Erwin's done enough for humanity already. It's time he was allowed to rest. The following are Erwin and Armin's Databook stats. Erwin: Combat 9/10 Initiative 10/10 Wits 10/10 Teamwork 7/10 Ruthless 10/10 Armin: Combat 2/10 Initiative 6/10 Wits 10/10 Teamwork 8/10 Judgement 10/10.

Polygon

As much as i love Erwin, his time was done. It was time for some new blood. In a perfect world we wouldn't even have to make this decision and the story would have continued with Erwin simply taking a back seat after reaching the basement with Hange still taking over, but alas, the AoT world isn't like that :(

Shockzz1234

Erwin would choose the gamble every time haha

Punktlig

I love both but I felt like Erwin kept making plans that ended up with many people dying and sacrificing themselves while Armin was making plans that led to the survival of anyone involved. Armin was best choice in that regard.

PFC Alizae

For me this is a very difficult choice Erwin has has the experience, knowledge, intelligence and inspiration to be brought back but I keep seeing how there were a lot of situations where Armin hasn’t just figured out but also fixed some of them were actually by himself, I just feel confused and torn about which one to pick

Deadpool

Erwin was definitely a hero, but his time is through. Being able to order hundreds, even thousands of soldiers to their death over his tenure took its toll on him. He definitely got the ball rolling but Armin has proved that his critical thinking skills are what are going to move the Scouts forward now. Levi or Hange could comfortably take Erwin's place, though neither would probably want to.

Chris Poveroni

Definitely Erwin. He’s willing to do unspeakable things for the good of humanity. I know he claims he doesn’t care about humanity, but I think he is just being humble. His actions speak for themselves.

Zane Pena

I cried like a bitch during the decision

EXILE169

I'd go with Erwin. Experience over potential. The ability to make the tough decisions over being smart. In an army I think Erwin has more than proven his worth while Armin is a promising youngster. And I prefer the safe bet to to the gamble.

Doby Greg

Erwin was the logical choice. Armin has not proven himself smarter than Erwin. His analyses are based on experiencing things first hand. He suspected Annie was the Female Titan because he saw her use Marco's gear which he helped to repair. He knew Reiner was in league with the Female Titan because he was there to witness her not kill him when she had the chance, and then stare at her hand before running to where Eren was. And while he MAY eventually prove to be Erwin's superior in tactics and intellect in the future given his age, there's no guarantee they have 5-10 years to wait for him to mature. They're facing human extinction NOW. They don't even know when the next attack will come. What other kinds of Titans there are. The decision to revive Armin rather than Erwin could have cost them all of humanity if the Beast Titan took a nap, ate some BBQ ribs, regrew his limbs, and launched an attack again a couple days later to retrieve Eren and Bertolt. Who would be more psychologically prepared? Who already commands authority? Who already knows how to play the politics of the inner walls? Erwin. As for their ambitions. The basement literally has the key to saving humanity in their eyes. How is getting answers to questions they've had for 100 years not far more imperative than exploring the world at this point? Exploring the world simply for the sake of awe is a frivolity when you're on the verge of extinction. I get the feeling most people base their choice between Armin and Erwin just like Eren and Mikasa do. Emotions. "We know him more than Erwin, plus he's younger so he should have a chance at life". These are both true but, again, extinction!

Steddy

At the end of the day Armin cares about humanities survival, Erwin doesn't. So I pick Armin. And I feel that's part of the reason that Levi picked him too.

Woodsie89

I pick Armin for the same reason they did, Erwin doesn't want to live on the pile of bodies anymore

Crispy_Gin

Armin, though Erwin has experience, Armin would be more creative therefore dangerous with the colossal titan..... Plus I read manga...😕

Bryan Solano

Erwin. Both of them are smart and excellent at coming up with plans, so for me the deciding factor would be experience. I do think Shane and Aaron are underselling Erwin a bit. In the reaction they made it sound like Erwin just acted like a mouth piece for Armin's ideas lol.

Jjop017

The dub cut out the subs version about Armin having dreams while Erwin just had a desire to know the truth of his father's. I'm sure in today's society we would pick a leader with ample experience vs. a bright mind with untapped potential. But I would still go with Armin, since he has potential to grow.

BruLee

I’m not reading what the poll is because I haven’t seen the episode, but that thumbnail for the video looked very spoilery!

Able

I think you guys missed that Erwin 'slapped' Levi's hand away because he was holding his hand up to imitate when he was a kid raising his hand in class questioning the teacher/father (They showed the scene for a split second). I don't think it was a conscious decision, but more-so him reliving the past in his mind.

Brady

Erwin if he didn't say no

Animes version of Sophie's Choice, I love Armin but I might've chose Erwin

Joel

Erwin was done. The only thing he lived for at this point was his dream of proving his dad right. IMO, he was spent.

Sheriff Uchiha

If I was a scout I would pick the man convincing our entire nation we need to fight these titans as a watcher armin as connie said in season 1 his word is law

Anthony Lujan

Meaning no disrespect to Erwin, the fact that Armin has a better tract record of how well his plans play out when compared to Erwin, even though Erwin has an about 20 to 30 years of experience advantage on him, means he is the correct choice; Erwin's brain was amazing, but Armin's seems to be incomparable.

Mordirit

Armin, he's best girl.

Nexis

Of course, in the end there really isn't a wrong answer. That's why the choice is so damn difficult

Picking Armin just felt like the "right" thing to do. Tactically, yeah Erwin would've been more useful. But he also lived a life of hell already, and it was just his time. So my pick was Armin. (even though Erwin is probably my favorite character)

I absolutely love Erwin. One of the greatest men to ever not really exist. However, I picked Armin because he is an incredible asset and, frankly, he hasn't really lived his life. Even if he never gets to see the world, he is still young. Erwin did so much to keep humanity alive. And his death feels more honorable knowing he chose it, and his final act was his speech of his soldiers rage. Rest in peace Erwin Smith. It may be a GOT thing, but what is dead may never die.

Considering the line Levi remembers from Kenny that "everybody needs to be drunk on something", Arming is the best choice for me. Erwin was drunk on the goal to reach the cellar. After that, what would be the motivation of going forward for him? But Armin for me, is looking ahead, thinking long term, even after the cellar. So Armin, 100%

Juliane Ivanow

This is one of those decisions where my heart says Erwin but my Brain says Armin and in the end, Armin was the choice for me. Not only because of the examples given here in the episode but also because since he has a much stronger connection to Eren, they motivate each other directly and indirectly. Also Armin has just the slight edge in unconventional thinking and tries to think of ways to move ahead that don't always involve bloodshed. Tough choice nonetheless but I wouldn't be upset if Erwin got picked but I take comfort in knowing he's getting the rest he's deserved with having so much on his shoulders for so long. RIP to such a legendary character Commander Erwin Smith!

Jovanny garduno

Armin because of his potential and his youth allows him room to grow. He is very intelligent and can be groomed into being a great leader!

Rah Sheen

I feel like after Erwin fulfilled his dream of learning the truth and seeing what was inside the basement, he wouldn't really be there for any other reason than to just....exist.....and I don't mean to make decisions and lead, but rather to just...be... his death felt *right* and made sense considering the context of the show, and that"s what makes it all the more painful to watch, but that's just good writing. Armin is younger and therefore has minimal experience, but while Erwin had that experience he literally only had one arm. He wouldn't be able to fight, hell he WASN'T able to fight, he stood atop the wall and strategized and formulated a plan, his weapon was his brain. The same can be said for Armin though. Although he's young, he has room to grow and propel the plot forward.

Zoe

It's a really hard decision but considering everything that was brought up about Armin in this episode he makes the most sense in the long run in my opinion. And honestly Erwin deserved to rest and personally believed in Armin as well. It still is heartbreaking but I love how this episode was written especially the character writing. Awesome reaction as always. :-) <3

Supermonaman

On the field, in the heat of the moment, I'd pick Erwin in a heartbeat.

Seriano Aparecido Bueno Junior

Remember, Erwin said in an earlier episode Armin was one of their greatest weapons in this war. Could you imagine Erwin's disappointment if he was saved instead of Armin? For this reason alone, I think saving Armin makes more sense. Erwin was amazing, and I miss him. But it's time for new blood to take over the fight. It sucks it came down to a choice - I would have loved it if only Armin was mortally injured, so Erwin could see what happened next. But at the end of the day, it was a fitting end for Erwin.

doc1990

You can learn leadership, but you can't learn 200 IQ Big Galaxy Brain. Armin for life!

Memetic Hazard

Armin for me 100% because Erwin mentioned back in episode 13 or 14 that Armin was one of their greatest weapons going forward. If Erwin had been given the syringe, he would have been disappointed Armin wasn't saved given his opinion of Armin. It would have also been a disservice to that line in the first place. It's a Chekhov's gun situation, really. Why mention that if you weren't planning on keeping Armin around. That's what I was thinking during the entirety of episode 18. Don't get me wrong though. Part of me wanted Erwin to be the one to survive. But it made more sense for Armin to live. Levi pretty much summed up his take on this in the episode too, and I agree with him.

doc1990

Armin but honestly either one wouldnt necessarily be the wrong choice.

MOB12

Who’s the one that everyone kept looking to for a plan?

ShrekMedic

Armin is one of my faves but I probably would’ve gave it to Erwin

Cleo Leef

Personally I would have picked Erwin. In universe because he's done more to prove himself and outside of that I just liked his character more. Although it could be argued that his arc was ag its conclusion anyway.

Paul Deasy

Erwin is a total badass and a great leader but i would've given it to Armin just because i care for him a bit more also i think that was a great point to end Eriwn's story and now maybe we can get to see Armin starting to become that leader.

Dip602

I love both but come on Erwin was the right choice because of his Courageousness
