Mid-video update + Q&A - A Very Squishy Christmas edition

Howdy everyone, and welcome to the mid-video update once again - and a rather special edition this time! Not exactly with regards to news for me or this channel; my life has been pretty steady and the channel is going quite well; but just on the grounds of it being quite close to the holidays. I hope everyone has a wonderful time (or is at least able to bare through it without too much psychic damage), and that the new year comes rolling in kindly! I'm not quite sure what my plans are as of now, but I will definitely be taking at least Christmas Eve and the day-of off, same with New Years. That may slow video progress down a little bit, but I'm already at a pretty good pace with this current one so it should be fine.

And hey, on the note of video progress!

January: Saya no Uta. Yes, seriously, finally, it's happening after getting requests for this one for YEARS. I was kind of hesitant for a while fearing I wouldn't have much to say, or would have TOO much to say, but I finished the game this week and have got about 40% of the script done and am confident in it so far.

February & March: Undecided still! I'm going to at least take Feb to play something that... isn't, horror, or very depressing, since I need a little break like I had with HaruKuru and Seabed. I'm currently looking at a few DLSite indie RPGs, maybe a VN like Pastel Chime, and if I feel up to it after that I might take a peek at some of the games I teased before, namely Nie no Hakoniwa and Sadistic Blood.

THE LIST: IT DESIRES GAMES. Like usual feel free to suggest games in the comments and I'll add them if they seem like something I'd like to cover! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WF_2ADCa5UY63yygiElEyGr35UPCf-jfGivuHAeaiqs/edit?gid=0#gid=0

And that about does it for now! Feel free to leave questions for me to answer in the next Patreon segment here or in DMs; it's a lot of fun seeing what y'all are curious about!

Until next time! o/

Comments

Maybe not for this upcoming months as it does cover dark topics, I highly recommend Mamiya -a shared illusion of the world's end-. It is completely unvoiced and uses entirely(except the op and ed as far as im aware) royalties free music similar to Enigma: (same publisher and also a high recommend). Despite that this is one of my top 10(7th) vns and i was blown away with how deeply it sucked me in. also on vndb you will see a sequel and it is just the third act of the story and i consider them all as one complete thing as it was sold as a dlc after all.

Ninja_Dog

Any interest in the iconic Dramatical Murder? (DMMD) i’d be interested in hearing about your opinions

I recently launched a demo / Kickstarter of my 90s style otome with gameplay elements inspired by Angelique and Tokimeki <3 Since you've covered Angelique I thought it might be up your alley. t's called "Snowkissed Romance" if you'd like to check it out.

Reccomendation-wise, I'll mention Hashihime of the Old Book Town and UuultraC (both BL VNs) as well as the Code: Realize games and Taisho X Alice (both otome games)!

Max

I'd like to suggest Popotan! I remember watching the anime as a kid and recently found out the VN had a very different premise. Its not available in english so i'd love to hear your take on it

Yulissa

Hi! I have some (a lot) suggestions: How about Sakura, Moyu, Yume Miru Kusuri, YU-NO, Famicom Detective Club series, Cyanotype Daydream, Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou, Hentai Prision, Forest, Owaru Sekai to Birthday, Sore wa Maichiru Sakura no You ni, Pieces, Black Sheep Town, Otome Sekai no Arukikata, Ever Maiden, Geminism, Comic Party, Aoiro Rinne, Fuuraiki series, Utawarerumono, Hirahira hihiru, Adabana Itan, Meikei no Lupercalia

コーラ

for the questions segment: where does the name "amelie doree" come from? also, for a more lighthearted suggestion -- i've heard a lot of very good things about the otome vn bustafellows, though i haven't been able to play it myself yet

maddie hunter

Do Mugen Renkan please, it's another masterpiece from Izumi Ban'ya..! At least put it into the list... It's in some ways similar to Shiniyuku Kimi!

SilentNyle

Actually, I just looked at the list and was wondering if you’d ever cover YUNO! I’ve been looking at it on and off for over a year (content is. Something I have to detox from after reading for a while) and was interested in your thoughts on the story and how it handles presenting its VERY questionable subject matter as well as its historical impact.

EeveeCurry

Yeah I can imagine you need a break after Sayo no Uta it’s not pleasant Like I’ve said, first five minutes (with headphones on) sent me into a week-long panic attack and reading up on it to get a better understanding made me sick to my stomach so I can… only imagine what it’s actually like reading it. Hang in there, and I hope the holiday season treats you well!

EeveeCurry

Have you played any of the Famicom Detective Club games before? I just finished Emio The Smiling Man and I loved the presentation of the game, as well as how it went about the more atmospheric horror similar to a Nancy Drew point and click game and the interesting spin on decetive VN gameplay. Also I heard there is a Japan exclusive game for it that wasn't remastered with the first 2 games.

Techless

If I were to recommend any VNs for February and March, it would be Seek for February and Bigaku: YURIKA&ASUNA for March. As for April, I'd say Mugen Kairou. Other VNs I recommend are the Sakusei Byoutou Trilogy and Dracula Hakushaku.

Lael Hochberg

I suggest adding a tab to your list for games you already covered as a quick reference guide.

Peter Tushar

Ah, time to finally go into the meat dimension...

The Critic of Innocence

Do you have any advice for people writing their first VN?
