I don’t know Thawne’s overall goal but one can only assume stopping Cicada will give him the freedom he needs to carry out his plans. Also apparently the reason Barry wasn’t in the episode much this week was because he was getting married around the time they filmed.

I think he's trying to Save Barry: as in to stop him disappearing in time after he saved little Barry pre S1. This means Thawne doesn't go with him and doesn't get stuck in the far past. Cause, I guess Thawne could time-travel in Legends, and he somehow managed to get to Nazi Earth, and now seems to be imprisoned 25 ish years in the future, it doesn't look like he has managed to achieve his goal from S1 - that was to get home. (He's from like the 30th century right? Maybe he needs some more juice, like another Flash, to travel that far into the future)

If anything good results from his plan, I seriously doubt that it was his end goal. It feels more like a byproduct of his ultimately evil plan. A means to an end.

Stopping cicada is just a step in the process. Gotta remember, cicada shouldn’t have shown up yet and he was supposed to be someone else. It’s because Nora interfered that he’s even around. I think Thawn does want to save Barry like he’s telling Nora, but for reasons he isn’t telling her that ultimately serves his purposes. Possibly realeasing him from prison somehow.

Honestly I miss Matt as Reverse Flash, however, I feel that Thawn is using XS to capture Cicada to preserve himself in the timeline; because he knows that Barry will be seriously injured or die. Because he never becomes Reverse Flash without being inspired by Barry.

Maybe Cicada did something to R.Flash and he lost his speed. and as soon as flash captures cicada he will get his speed back.

I hope the writers think of something original, but right now we have to assume he’s a bad guy with bad intentions

Something to do with Saving Barry/Stopping Cicada is connected to Thawne being in his current state in 2049. So he needs get Nora to change that to help himself in the future.

I have no freaking idea.. its eobard so i assume something selfish, bad and just for his own agenda. But maybe the conversation from a couple of episodes comes in play here "Can everybody be redeemed? Even Eobard Thawne?" So maybe he surprises us but i believe it when I see it. And even than I will hold my doubt for a few episodes.

Probably something that is beneficial to him and saving Barry is just a consequence of it.

I chose save Barry but I can also see there being more to it then that. He could genuinely want to save Barry but at the same time wanting something else for himself. P.S. I don't remember the episode but last season Ralph's physique was commented on and he replied by saying that his stomach is actually gone now even though it was fake in the beginning.

There is no way he is being altruistic. Thawne only helps Thawne. It benefits him somehow just not sure on details.

I think doing for himself. He always consistently selfish through the entire Arrowerse. He using Nora for way get out his prison cell or maybe to hurt barry that Nora (his daughter) is working with worst enemy and pretty much betraying them. The only reason I can see for Thawne to be trying to save Barry is that he needs him for something else. Either that or he's lying to Nora. Either way it's not good for the team.

He might be wanting to actually save Barry, but maybe because doing so, will somehow lead to Eobard getting out of his prison. Since he somehow knows how to manipulate time, he somehow knows how to free himself, and saving Barry somehow leads to that.

Big theory time. Cicada from the future is the girl, the girl is coming to kill the reverse flash. Also the technology in the dagger was then used to create a meta dampening device that could work at a distance without requiring contact like with handcuffs, destroying the dagger will set eobard free and save him from his death. This has consequences, destroying the dagger makes crisis of infinite earths happen sooner, this has the consequence of Nora now never being born as Barry disappears before he can get it on.

Because Cicada is responsible for Barry's disappearance as far as we know, and Eobard is most likely in the prison because of the Flash's disappearance, I think his plan is to make it so Barry doesn't disappear, and then hunt him himself.

Just like how he sped up Barry becoming the Flash I think his goal is to speed up the oncoming Crisis. I think he believes if he can speed up the crisis he can save Barry and therefore save his own life. After all one can't exist without the other.

Ive tried guys ive tried but i just cant anymore. Team flash are the worst group of heroes in the arrowverse. This was the like 12th time they let cicada get away not to mention he was stabbed tin the chest this time. I will not beleive it if they ever do catch him cause at this point the show has made iy very clear cicada emits a dumb dumb spray that makes all those around him just stare and gawk thus 100% escape rate

For me, when he said, “and save your father” it sent off tons of alerts that he’s up to his classic manipulation. And I personally feel that at this point Nora should begin to pick up on that, especially hearing the stories from Barry and the gang.

I just can not believe Thawne has pure intentions based on all past actions indicating otherwise. Everything he's done in this show so far has ultimately been to serve his interests. But IF he actually wanted to save Barry, I would think that it would only be because it benefits him in some way.
