I was fortunate to have the opportunity to shoot with model Lindsey Tierney (LindseyT.Tierney on Instagram) while she was in town from Houston. She had a couple great wardrobe pieces but a friend of mine had an excellent variety of wardrobe options in studio and we were able to get creative and mix it up.

I’m appreciative of model Willow Wolfe (WillowxWolfe on Instagram) messaging me to do a shoot during her drive down from Northern California. We found a beautiful outdoor setting for a golden hour shoot. That golden hour glow complemented Willow’s blonde hair perfectly. And the bandana made for a fun prop to incorporate into portraits

I tend to overshoot on portrait sessions. I like having the extra content to work with and share over time. These portraits come from a house based shoot with model Brittany Adore

I had the good fortune to work with model Ashley Green (hashleygreen2 on Instagram) and her free spirited nature and expressiveness made for a beautiful series of portraits. She drove an hour and a half for this shoot so we did a nature setting and shot at a pool so there will be plenty more portraits to share

I had the chance to explore the Malibu wilderness with model Silver Strawberry. The overcast start to the day left us with soft diffused light as she moved through her free spirited poses

Typically, this time of year the outdoors of Southern California are drying out and turning more of a golden brown. At a recent shoot with model Dharma Jones, I found this great patch of greenery reminiscent of early springtime complete with purple flowers. It made for a great spot for a series of portraits

I’ve always been a fan of books. I grew up reading mysteries and legal thrillers. These days, I do less reading but I do enjoy using them as part of photo shoots. And this backyard setting for a shoot with model Ariana. The greenery and white sheet gave me relaxing, picnic vibes

I’m always looking for props to complement portraits. Flowers, namely, are a great accessory and not only can be eye catching to the viewers, but also give the model something to play with and get creative. This is a flashback to a fun shoot with model Linda Lan in Los Angeles

For so long, I mainly shared one portrait at a time on my social media feeds. As a former journalist, though, I’ve been drawn more lately to telling a story or setting a scene through a series of portraits. With this shoot with Taylor, I captured a mix of full portraits along with detail work.

I had a pool based shoot recently with model Ariana (IG: ArianaSloanXo) and there was a beautiful bed of flowers along the side of the house. The light was bouncing beautifully off the house and illuminating Ariana and her classic denim look

Sometimes it doesn’t take much to add a creative flare to portraits. For this shoot with Kacie, we used a sheer piece of fabric that she beautifully incorporated into a great mix of unique portraits

When I shot a few months ago at this studio in downtown Los Angeles, there was an old Canon camera sitting there ready to be used as a prop. I put it to good use for this shoot with model Nikole Mitchell

So often, people will see the weather is overcast and hesitate to want to do a shoot. Me? I love it. Cloudy weather makes for beautiful soft light and excellent portraits as it did with this session with traveling model Katy Hedges.

I always love to incorporate props to a shoot to add an extra element of creativity. The studio I shot at for this shoot with model Nikole Mitchell had an old film camera sitting nearby and so I grabbed it to mix in for a portrait or two or three

The Los Angeles downtown area is a goldmine for beautiful studios to shoot in. As much as I love shooting outdoors, and utilizing natural light, you are often restricted to golden hour for the best light. That said, window light is excellent throughout the day in studio as shown here in this portrait session with model Brittani Adore

I’ve always been grateful for the plethora of beaches within a short drive of where I live. There’s nothing quite like a colorful sunset but even leading up to golden hour, the direct light can make for stunning portraits as it did on this shoot with model Michelle

I’ve long been a fan of using natural light as part of photo shoots. I usually rely on soft, even light but sometimes using harsh light can truly make a portrait stand out. I had the pleasure of shooting with talented model and life coach Nikole Mitchell Sunday in Los Angeles and there will be plenty more portraits to share from this great shoot.

Sometimes something as simple as using a prop, in this case a cowboy hat, can make for a quality complement to a series of portraits. Model Brittany Adore put this hat to great use for this shoot.

Linda (Foodsandnood.ss on IG) has a great ability to flow naturally from one pose to the next. It’s almost as if the photographer isn’t even there. Which, is what I like, as someone who can simply step in and observe a scene and capture it.

I started this shoot with model Lexi early in the afternoon when the sun was still high in the sky, and harsh. A reliable workaround in this scenario is to find open shade and a massive boulder at this outdoor location helped diffuse light and and provided beautiful open shade
