The Flash 5x13 Poll!

What did you think of Iris fighting off Cicada?

Comments

It made no sense at all to me that iris against a superhuman serial killer could not only, somehow stab him, but then just walk out like this man has not literally taken lightning bolts to the chest. Like this man couldn't walk outside see her super jump then murder . Idk might just be me also why the fuck did she even try to do this shit solo has she done shit this dumb before. P.S. How the fuck is Gold face alive I know Barry don't kill .but damn if he didnt look dead to me.

Bigfoot

Iris ruined The Flash for me, and the showrunners keep putting her at the forefront for some reason.

Ricardo Pomalaza

Good moment, but I agree with Eric, that her being able to stop him and everyone else struggling to even stand up against him, is a bit crazy. But at this point in this series, I've learned to accept it, and store it in the part of my brain that says, "Don't worry about it."

I mean she thought it was his cousin's house and no one was home. How was she suppose to know he'd be there and at that very moment? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

kaldurobin

I liked it. I wish Iris was allowed to finish him off too. She is totally capable to do so; they've shown time and time again she has no problem with popping a cap in someone's ass. They do really need to do a better job with the meta's fighting on this show though, it's so much standing around taking turns to throw a punch (or icicle or vibe or insert power here.) Maybe we need an episode where Joe and Iris teach everyone how to fight? We can call over Team Arrow for moral support. No but look at Dinah and Siren's fights on Arrow - they're both meta's who regularly use their cries in fights while also using hand to hand.

kaldurobin

It wasn’t as great as Barry and Ralph going all John Wick with Dragula playing in the background

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen #1

I liked it in the sense that it was purposely set up to move the plot arc forward. His chest wound getting stabbed stabbed by Iris, shows a way to incapacitate him, just happening to be long enough for keeping him at bay to inject the cure. (I also like the introduction of 'Irene Adler' to the Sherloque story. She is a famous character in the Sherlock Holmes stories.)

Justin H'oman

You're right about the inconsistencies. I'd like it to be explained somehow with the connection of the shard in Grace's head and the shards in his chestwound being linked. Maybe the strength boosts and insane rage outburts are due to Grace's mindstate effecting him. I'm giving the Flash writers too much charity though.

Justin H'oman

Normally, Flash could defeat any of Green Arrow's villains in a second but this time it feels like if Oliver were in Iris' place, the season would be over already

Danny King

I was fine with it. The problem is that it was a very grounded fight that clashed hard against the norm in terms of fights that we're used to. Either he's an unstoppable supervillain or he's just another badass make up your minds Flash writers

Danny King

Why don't blind wave do full picture in picture reactions on pateron ?alot of paterons do it?.like britsmash she does it not issue.

Paul smith

Frankly, it's proof of a problem with the show that has been present since Season 1. Iris West isn't a character, she's a plot device that the writers expect us to call the best character in the show. She is a below average marksman and journalist, yet she's somehow able to shoot a speedster moving so fast ANOTHER SPEEDSTER didn't/couldn't react to it, and through the power of being a snoopy sod, was able to get close enough to temporarily incapacitate the most successful meta-killer in the Arrowverse. No, she should be capable of precisely none of the "impressive feats" she's done over the series.

Scott Hadden Jnr

I thought it worked really well and it was believable that Iris would be able to stab him and escape especially when you factor in that he's already in a lot of pain from his dark matter wound

Jeanette C

Maybe I’m cynical, but if I had a chance to plunge a knife into him after every hero (and meta) in the city has failed to, I wouldn’t have stopped at one, and I wouldn’t have left him there and ran away. I’d be calling the medical examiner to retrieve the body, lol.

Keyboard Junkie

I liked, especially since even though she put up a good fight. Cicada had the upper hand for the most. I think he was just surprised that she stabbed him. Also at the place where it hurts the most and he might also still be disorientated because of the pepper spray. This wasn't a case where Iris dominated over Cicada

Flashback007

I liked it but I also really didn’t like it. Like a lot of people have mentioned, we know Joe taught Iris how to defend herself at a young age and it’s perfectly within Iris’s character to be able to handle a threat like this. On the other hand, if Iris can fight him off like this, why can’t team flash????? Also, didn’t they say even Oliver couldn’t defeat him? Plot wise, this doesn’t really make sense for me. Character wise, this makes a lot of sense.

Stormageddon Thomason

It makes sense for iris to fight back as long as she needed to escape, getting a knife into cicada and then running. Obviously iris had to leave because again cicada does have powers, iris needed to use the moment of weakness to escape

Dan Banks

At least someone finally stabbed him! So that I liked :D

I thought it was fine. I didn’t have any issues with any aspect of the encounter. It’s Cicada vs Team Flash fights lately that I find ridiculous. He felt threatening early on, but now his greatest power is Team Flash’s incompetence.

Dylan Carpenter

I liked it but didn’t love it. I thought Iris fought back well and enjoyed that aspect of it. I did think that after all the trouble he’s given the team though including those with powers , Cicada should’ve been a tougher fighter and should have dominated her.

Callie Stephen

Shouldn't Ralph turn fat when the cuffs were on him.

EXILE169

I think it mostly worked JUST well enough. There were moments where I was feeling like Cicada should have been a touch faster, even with his injury/weakness at the time. But still.

Jax

I feel like some people just hate anything Iris does i personally like her and i really liked that fight Iris didn't overpower him she just stabbed him in the place where she knew he was injured it was very well done in my opinion

Dip602

You’re just wrong.

Darth Kal-El (Cory Weston)

I actually really liked the scene, it felt believable to me. I think the comparison people are making between this Iris scene and the team against Cicada’s scene says more about the second one.

RoadRaf

She's been shown to have fighting skills since S1. She has been shown consistently to be able to handle herself both in a physical fight and with a gun because Joe taught her to defend herself and because she was initially planning on becoming a cop. (Clock King, Girder, Doctor Light, Marlize, Dwarfstar, Mind Controlled!Wally, Mind Controlled!Nora, Savitar.) She pepper sprayed Cicada then stabbed him with a pen in his previously established meta wound to immobilize him. There was nothing wrong with the scene. In fact, it was extremely consistent with Iris' character since S1. But people sure do love to critique every little thing Iris does impossibly harsher than they would any other character.

Feather_Noir

I was fine with the scene, even though it shows team flash shouldn't struggle with fighting him as much. However, maybe it is because Iris found Cicada's weakness: a hole in his chest.

Tucker Lobner

Right? Me too!

Tina L

Just want to point out that at the time of my vote the poll is at a 50 50 split. Really hope it stays like that.

Alexander Mullins (Valathor95)

I didn't really have much of a problem with it. He's strong, but he doesn't have invulnerability, and no one has tried pepper spraying him before, so it kind of makes sense it worked. He did overpower her, so they didn't really make him weaker, she only got away because she stabbed him, and it was either in his shard wound, or really close, so all in all, I didn't see a problem.

Ian Vega

Iris should've had some back up.

I thought the fight wasn't over the top, but it always feels weird when a villain is left on the floor weak. Couldn't have called anyone to clean the mess?

Boomchicawawa Bay

I liked it. It felt natural to me. She was in pure defense mode and was able to exploit a weakness you wouldn't notice unless you saw him up close without his suit. It really worked for me. Though I did wonder why she didn't hit her panic button.

That fight was everything I expected from the daughter of Joe West, Samurai Slayer. And if we're to suspect the reason Cicada is still around in the future is because someone else has taken up the mantle, then it's not hard to believe that a good physical injury could/would actually harm this version.

Ashgar77

Everything up until the stab was perfect for iris’s character... the stab just made it feel like iris is better at taking down cicada than every single hero on team flash which just feels weird to me

Daniel Aka Jardo

I didn't hate the scene. His only weakness, a good ole prison shanking!

tsujoi

I liked it except for iris breaking the dollhouse my first reaction was to yell bitch at the tv

Anvy_1

Felicity versus Diaz was a more believable fight for me. This one for some reason just doesn’t sell it for me but that just be my bias against this current villain rn. Sherloooque!

Gavin Hardiman

Let’s not forget Iris wanted to be a cop first so she should be able to defend herself. I liked it because Cicada probably underestimated her (by not being as brutal) because she’s female with no powers, and she was able to use that “hesitation” against him by having time to react.

LKG

I had no problems with Felicity fighting Diaz so I gotta be fair and say I’m ok with this but Felicity’s fight was more of a visceral mama bear protecting her cub type of fight where she charged and hit him with everything she had

Christian Bolda

It is just like felicity and diaz in my opinion

Matthew

First off I dont consider this a fight, but the scene itself was well done, until Iris stabbed him, how the HELL did he escape. Knock him the fuck out, dont leave so that he can escape.

Joel

Meh it was ok. But I was more invested in bad boy Barry. He should channel his dark side more often

Anthia Grant

I voted i liked it but honestly i am neutral. That was plot fight (like most are) and regardless of sense or reason that was going to happen one way or the other.

CJ

I think the kitchen knife was so effective only because she happened to get him in or near his scar i don't think it was just the stab. Although no matter how much stronger than a normal human he is, he is still just a human and getting stabbed period is going to hurt, especially that close to a previous wound. Thats just my guess though I can't know for sure.

CJ

I will admit that I am not a fan of Iris and have even considered stopping watching the show because of how much I dislike her, but I am able to separate my feelings for Iris and still enjoy some of what she does. While I like that Iris came prepared and isn't just a damsel in distress, I don't think she should have been able to stop Cicada like that. Nora said that even Oliver, Kara, and the League couldn't stop Cicada, so I would have preferred if Iris just managed to narrowly escape rather than defeat Cicada in a fight.

David Roderick

I would have liked her escaping by outsmarting him. The same episode our team talk how they can't hold him 1 min but Cicada was at Iris mercy in his own house. Even Dragon won despite not being the big bad.

Doby Greg

Well they did some laser tag before guess that have Barry some experience lol

Liam Harrold

I was surprised mainly because pepper spray is such a normal defense. In a world full of super powered people, that's rare. But I didn't mind it. She knew who he was from the get go and was prepared mentally to defend herself. And maybe responding to him as a human instead of a meta reliant on powers gave her the temporary upper hand. I can at least buy the possibility. If it had been a more drawn out fight in a more open space, I don't think she would've had a chance.

Brandi H

It didn't bother me, Iris was trained by her father the cop in hand to hand combat. She also knows weapons which has been shown extensively on the show so it makes sense she could fight. All the flashbacks from the early seasons of their childhood Joe taught Iris fighting and defense and she uses it consistently through the seasons.

Lizbeth Perry

I didn’t like it. The flash, killer frost, vibe. All these hero’s go up against him and get destroyed. Or even when they nearly win he jumps away. And iris just manages to fight him off in his house and she survives and injures him?? Let’s be honest, if she wasn’t a main character she would be dead

BarryAllen1310

That's only one of the things I disliked about this episode. Barry and Ralph getting the upperhand versus a bunch of supposedly trained criminals, with weapons set to actually kill (while theirs was to stun), was a biiig stretch even for The Flash. Lastly, I don't like them introducing Sherlock's wives storyline. It's fillery and all it will achieve is delay Zoom and Nora's plot. I thought Zoom was on a timer, although that wasn't brought up in this episode when they talked.

Diego R.

I thought it was neat seeing Iris's fighting side, but she also made some really stupid mistakes like coming there in the first place. I do like she's actually being an investigative reporter like she's supposed to be.

Rubi Moon

So you don’t like female empowerment 👀 but no, for real the writing was awful.

Ryan O'Malley

I didn’t like the writing for those last few moments with her saying “We will beat you.” And they have been building him up all season as a physically tough villain but he was incapacitated by a kitchen knife. Why? If she must fight him off, then leave it at stabbing him then run away.
