Melron Reacts: Doctor Who 11x8 Poll!

Should the companions change their clothes when travelling through time?

Comments

Every other time in the past they did, Clara and Bill changed clothes for Victorian era London. They don't for the future all the clothes they wear exist, and it has come up in the past were Qween Victoria said Rose was naked.

Sheriff Uchiha

They're wearing clothes that didn't even exist in the time periods they're at so they're going to stand out

They almost never did in the past, especially never the doctor.

Bryan Matola

Even Ace changed clothes and they had styled her look specifically. zIts tradition.

Xen Martyrzade

I don't see the problem. Graham wore a hat in this one didn't he? That's enough.

MailDude

Why Start Caring about that now?

Ryan Witalison

Over 50 years and you are finally asking this silly question? C'mon man!

jesse guerrero

I don't think it's necessary, chances are they're always going to stand out a bit in other time periods anyway so I don't think wearing some clothing the locals would think is bizarre really matters all that much (unless it's something that would be deemed inappropriately revealing for the period, which always tends to be addressed when it happens). Honestly, it's fun when the characters dress up but I can't say it's something I really care about one way or the other.

Katherine Jennings

Id say yes, I wouldn't say they stand out too much but id say it'd be cool and homey-ish, changing clothes every episode or almost every episode. Kinda like Donner and Rose etc did. It's like a little family and the tardis is the home

KieranT

They have always had to in the past so I don’t buy the perception filter nonesense or it would have always done that.

William Tanner

I know you weren't asking me but I like Whitaker too so far (apart from how she runs, I know its a little thing but it bugs me), but I don't like Chibnall's writing in this season ( i don't know if its the rumors that BBC messing about with his scripts or just him). I don't think Jodie is being tested as an actor enough. I don't mind it being slower to what's come before. I think people complained that "its too pc" are insane, and that "its too pc" has become a cliche complaint. I hope the rumors aren't true, that Jodie might be leaving after season 12, because she doesn't want to do doctor who without Chibnall ( the previously mentioned bbc messing with his scripts is the rumored reason he might be leaving.

Martin Wiggan

The Doctor doesn't, so why should anyone else?

Nathan Mortenson

Maybe it's too expensive? The BBC doesn't budget Doctor Who to have that much money. Costumes on the actors other costumes are an extravagance.

I’m sure the Doctor can’t be bothered with changing his apparel every time he steps out of the Tardis. I have no problem with the companions not adopting period dress for the same reason. I like the idea of a residual perception filter much like the psychic translator function. The Tardis doesn’t always go where the Doctor thinks it’s going. Amy could dress for Tahiti and find herself at the North Pole. If a short skirt in the 18th century draws no attention for one companion, but starts a riot for another, that’s fine with me. I’m sure there are the reasons.

Tumbili

Maybe sometimes, but mostly I feel like it's unnecessary.

Kevin Bartelen

When they go to different time periods such as this one, I think they should dress to the period they’re currently in.

Cameron Mason

I would say yes but I don't think its been brought up this season yet so I'm assuming it doesn't really matter

Kaycee

The Doctor's outfit can change slightly over time so yes I think they should change

Monty Magpie

that's how old Doctor Who went everyone would change so they would not standout. Or they would need to change to fit the weather. or they would buy cloths to fit their taste and fit in, or steal them.

It’s literally almost never been a problem before. Remember Amy in her pajamas on the Whaleship? Martha in her red leather jacket in Elizebethan England? Donna’s purple sundress in Pompeii? The occasional period costumes were nice, especially during Moffat’s run, but there’s almost never been a problem with regular clothes when they do wear them. And the Doctor almost never changes their clothes and always fits in fine. Even when he had a celery stapled to his lapel.

Bryan Matola

Aaron wants them to change their clothes just so he can see the Doctor not wearing those pants he hates so much :P

Damian Bentley

I don't think there is but we have seen something similar in Time of the Doctor where they had to be naked to go to the church so the Doctor had holographic clothes.

Ryan Hicks

I don't really think it's necessary, but I love it when they dress up

Bejo

Could be the tardis putting a perception filter over them and when people see them they dont notice details like clothing

It's something they've rarely ever done so I don't think it's necessary. It's fun sometimes, but it's not something they need to do every time they go into the past

Jeanette C

While I wanted them to wear appropriate clothes in this particular episode, most of the time I don't think they have to.

I mean they can but i honestly don’t mind as much. Real question how are you guys liking Whitaker as the doctor so far I love her!

I want them to because it’s kind of fun to see them change outfits based on their surroundings, but I guess they don’t really need too. Honestly, I haven’t been paying much attention to what they’re wearing.

Cornberry

In the 'Human Nature' episode(s) Tennant dressed era appropriate, but he also didn't have his memories, so. 🤷‍♀️

CarlyCChapman

They've never tended to dress for the time. As Nine said: "I changed my jumper". Tennant never wore era appropriate clothing and Smith and Capaldi only did once each I believe, with Smith's being very similar to his normal outfit. It was a bit more common in the classic series but still not all that a big thing.

Hugh Burke

They never really have that much before right? I remember Tenant just walked around in a suit in the Pompeii episode. Although it would be fun to see

SpeedyCat19

They should but they don't have to. I mean the doctor doesn't and he/she's the expert.

Doby Greg

Every era deserves to know how cool jackets are.

Rex Appleby

While it’s fun when they do it, I personally don’t feel the need, as they’ve only done it a few times with previous Doctors and companions in the modern era, and even in Classic Who it wasn’t always that big a deal.

Dale Denton

Nah. As Ten said, "Just walk around like you own the place. Works for me." I mean, they can dress up, and it would be fun for them to now and then, but dressing up NEVER keeps them out of trouble.
