Melron Reacts: Doctor Who 11x3 Poll!

Do you feel like the stories with the three companions has been working, or that a smaller group would be better?

Comments

Classic Who did larger companion groups very frequently so I like it here too. Allows for lots of different dynamics instead of solely between the Doctor and the one companion

IrishNexus

Artron energy was mentioned in the Doctor's wife where the TARDIS take a woman body.

Doby Greg

I enjoy the larger group. It feels different which I have been looking for in Doctor Who. I haven’t watched since David Tennant so its been cool to jump back on board here. I also feel the larger group allow the group to do more than one thing at a time and gives different perspectives on what’s happening in a certain episode

Thedeadman97

I like the idea of a team because it's something different from what we've had for the past few seasons. It adds another layer of freshness to the new Doctor's era. But I do think they need to develop Yas and Ryan more, because right now I don't think I'd feel anything if we lost them. Graham I've loved from the beginning. Graham and Grace would have made an awesome companion duo.

I think its great as we've only really ever had 1 companion

KieranT

It's pretty clear it's a challenge to find something meaningful for all the friends to do. Graham and Ryan are pretty well developed, but Yaz needs to get to step up soon. I like a team, so i'm wary but hopeful.

Opti_Frog

I'm going with "It works for me" because if they were going to get rid of anyone it'd be Graham, and he's my favourite. Don't touch Graham....... They haven't done an awful lot with Yaz, but they've kinda established that each of them brings something to the team. Graham is the social guy, Yaz is the investigator and Ryan is the technology dude.

The Doctor

As someone who grew up on the Classic era I'm a fan of the larger TARDIS Teams. I have a soft spot for the 5th Doctor, Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan as well as the First Doctor, Susan, Ian, and Barbara.

Ryan Witalison

It does work, but i still think fewer still works better, so there can be more focus on the doctor herself, when it's all new at least, if we had time to get to know one and then the other and then another that'd be better. Maybe it's just these companions who i don't really feel like they want to be here and just want to get home but they just don't feel like companions yet but rather reluctant tag alongs (so far)

Stefanniko

I like the larger group number, however it needs time to develop. With this series, because they're all joining at once and we have a new Doctor to establish as well, I feel like it's taking longer than the last time we had such a large group. Eleven's first episode featured the Doctor, Amy and Rory, establishing them as characters. Then Eleven and Amy went off on their own to develop their relationship and personalities more, before Rory joined them long enough to establish his own character. They built up on the layers (and sprinkled River in on occasion too) to develop each of the characters individually, rather than tossing them all in the pot and letting them go at it.

No not really, but it could. My favourite era was the river, Amy and Rory times, but the reason this isn’t working as good is that we haven’t got to know them individually very well. We don’t know who the doctor is best friends with and who they get along with between them. We’ve seen small snippets, but what are Yaz and Graham like together for example. I think they should have started with graham. Picked up Yaz episode 2/3 and Ryan episode 3/4. So by episode 5, we have the team together, but we get to know them each individually and they all have time to shine.

On the old show they regularly had this many companions and they would introduce multiple companions at a time sometimes. The first story in Classic Who introduces the tardis, the doctor, three companions, and tons of other stuff in a single 22 minute episode and it worked perfectly. I like having a big group that feels like family and not everyone is young and hot.

William Tanner

In my opinion, a smaller would work better, so that we wouldn't have to divide the amount of detail that goes into them, but if the show is well written then there isn't much of problem. I think the current TARDIS team is fine, with maybe Yasmin being the least developed so far.

MailDude

I'm liking the group of three ( four with the Doctor ), you have more scope for differing opinions and dynamics between the group. Graham is my fave, Bradley Walsh is awesome.

Knockoffnigel72

The group itself is fine, but I would feel a lot more at ease if I liked the Doctor more. I do like some of the things that the 13th doctor has done so far, but there still hasn't been that MOMENT that just screams, "I am the Doctor" yet. She got close to a typical snide Doctor attitude when she was confronting the villian for the second time, but since the villian was so weak, the effect was kind of lost on me.

Ardigyy

I feel like we have one too many companions to focus on. I probably could have done without Yaz, as she's just sort of... there. I also wish we had time with each companion by themselves, like we did with Amy, Rory & River. They all had their own episodes to build their characters individually, whereas we haven't had that with these 3.

Gibbzee

I've been enjoying the companions alot for the most part. Graham and Yaz are awesome and I love them. Ryan has been alot harder to like, but I get the feeling his arc is going to take time to really develop and get me to like him

Joshua Varghese

It's very old school. Now we just need some aliens and a robot dog.

Tasker Thorn

It works for me, at least for the most part. My only issue is Yasmine. Not that I dislike her, she's just yet to get the development Graham or Ryan have.

Stoned Volus

They used to have groups like this in Classic Who so I'm fine with it.

It reminds me of Amy, Rory, and River. I love ensemble casts. It feels like old school DW with the Doctor teaching a class instead of saving the universe. Both are fine, but I do enjoy a break from the big stuff every now and again.

De Lupe

I really love this group. I feel each of them brings something different. They're interesting in their separate relationships with the doctor (the doctor likes to tease Graham, is delighted by Ryan's curiosity, and seems to like to push Yas to be her best self) and each other. Still, it feels like they're missing something .... perhaps BEEBO

Neil Prospect

The First Doctor started with Three companions

I have no name

I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the number of companions this season. When I found out there would be so many I thought it'd be overwhelming and might distract from Jodie, but so far the dynamic has played out pretty well.

Han Phillips

I am liking group dynamic, graham is definitely the best of the 3, if next season for some reason they decide to have just two companions continue, I’d want graham and yaz.

Cameron Mason

I wouldn't say that exactly Dale Denton remember in an unearthly child Both teachers followed Susan to the tardis, and they did not trust the Doctor nor did he trust them. Only in the cave of skulls did trust start and only so far The Edge of destruction both the Doctor and Susan were against Barbara and Ian. And accused them of Sabotage in order to get them home. Susan even took a knife to Ian. Made for great T.V.

StevenBrown

I prefer a group to a duo but I love it more with only two companions.

A larger group can work if they are “collected” one at a time to help establish each individual. Or if we saw them through out a season not traveling and then have them all join the following season.

LKG

I think you’re reaching.

Darth Kal-El (Cory Weston)

Also, keep in mind that the creators of Legends of Tomorrow themselves have said that they were heavily inspired by Doctor Who.

Dale Denton

I love the New Doctor Story line, I think The next is Arachnids in the U.K and after that The Tsuranga conundrum. hope I have that correct.

StevenBrown

Interesting fact- the song at the end is highly associated with the Black Lives Matter movement. So its placement is pretty nice and relevant.

Dale Denton

Ryan cant ride a bike and has trouble climbing ladders under pressure because of his Dyspraxia, yet he can easily shoot armed alien robots with 100% accuracy while using an alien gun he's never used before. Just because he plays Call of Duty? I play FIFA 19 but that doesn't make me a Premier League footballer.

Monty Magpie

I really love the dynamic with Team Tardis, even though we still need more character development (we are in episode 3 so far as I'm writing this). In Rosa, everybody had a job to do that made them vital to the final result of keeping the timeline intact which I loved. I also really like Doctor Who maybe doing more of this Quantum Leap approach of doing historical events, in which instead of accidentally causing them they have to protect them. P.S: I noticed after the episode, but Stormcage is the prison River Song was incarcerated in! Nice callback in the episode!

AnnoyingRanter

I enjoy the group dynamic, though I feel it needs working on in relation to who the characters actually are. Right now Graham is my favourite with Yazmin in a close second. Ryan falls behind for me because I feel that the way his dialog is delivered is sometimes a little clunky, but besides that he is fine right now to me though a little extra character development couldn't hurt. With a group dynamic like this I enjoy how it calls back to how the show started, with the doctor and three companions. Tl;dr I enjoy it but feel that some character development would go a long way

SecondAttemps

I have a strange feeling Graham will die at some point this series. Him having cancer and then calling himself Steve Jobs in Rosa.

Monty Magpie

I feel having a Tardis team stops their from being an overcomplicated companion. We can get a more interesting dynamic, like between Graham and Ryan, or Graham and The Doctor or The Doctor and Yaz. Feel like this becomes more interesting to watch each week instead of just having the doctor and companion. Also think it can ease in the idea of a female doctor to the hardcore fans who are against it (who I definitely disagree with)

Harri Herniman

Ryan needs the axe. He’s a complete idiot. Especially after his Call of Duty quip last episode. And his “attempt” to follow her from about 5 feet behind this episode. Graham is....well, Graham, so I love him like the rest, and I’m really liking Yaz and her confidence and “Don’t Take Shit...Unless it’ll Get You Killed” attitude. But I could really do without Ryan.
