Father’s container was mentioned a few episodes back, so you guys might have forgotten. The body modeled after Hohenhiem is the container/flask. Pride resembles Father’s original form the most means the shadows Pride uses are his true form and the little boy body is his container. He needs the tunnels to travel through the country the way he does with his shadows, but there is limit to how far he can go without leaving his container/little boy body entirely. If the shadows leave the boy body completely he will die. Pride can leave the country and go outside of the circle in his boy body, but if he travels through his shadow form aka his true form he cannot completely leave the boy body aka his container. Pride is never fully explained. The author sort of leaves you to figure this out on your own with context clues. It is not a spoiler. You guys seemed lost on it so I thought to explain it better. Not sure if you’ll get see this though.

By this point in the show I had the same theory. I haven't read the manga (yet) I'm curious to see how it all gets explained.

When I was reading the manga my working theory was Father was connected to the pipes and they spread out through the country because he was the power source for western Alchemy and the tatonic plates stuff was a b.s. story he told people. They make a big deal how Alchemy in Ametris was strange and Envy mentioned how humans in Ametris foolishly thought Alchemy was their own power. I figured Father taught them a purposely wrong method that depended on him as a power source so he could control them more and the reason eastern Alchemy was different was because Hohenheim taught them true Alchemy. That theory got disproved toward the end of the series though. It is always fun to see people theorize and see if they are close or not.
