Its nice seeing season one characters in Korra and you know its them which makes the reveals sweeter really. I do have creative regrets with how they are used in Legend Of Korra but Korra is a new series and these are side characters. Which is sad but thats how things are.

And, the Airbenders where fought to be gone, I think that if someone randomly got a different element since there are a lot of family's like mako's and tenzin's a lot of people would think that they just dicoved it late, we don't really know what's the time frame for someone to say " they're a non-bender"

I think you can sum it to: "The writers didn't care to go into it." We have a plethora of all of the other elements. The viewers wouldn't have really cared if random character off the street suddenly got firebending, but airbending was a different matter. Plus it fits the narrative better.

I see it as: Harmonic convergence covering the word in spiritual energy, an unusually large amount of it, and that triggering the suppressed genes that had, until that point, been dormant. Maybe the genes were just recessive and those that had slightly stronger genes than others had them activated and BAM new airbenders!

Zuko is not Firelord. His daughter Izumi is Firelord. As for his dragon, it came from that gold egg he and Aang foung in the Sun Warrior temple where they learned the Dragon Dance. Also, you've. seen Lavabending before. Roku used it to destroy his temple in Last Airbender. It is another special skill of Earthbending like Metalbending.

To me Zuko looks a lot like a mix of his Great Grandfather Roku and his Grandfather Azulon. As other people have said as well Roku and Sozin are his Great grandfathers, Azulon is his grandfather who had two sons: his father Ozai and his uncle Iroh. As for the lavabending this isn't actually the first time we've seen it, way back in the first season of Avatar we saw Avatar Roku lavabend once or twice but he was in the avatar state when he did it. This guy is a very talented earthbender just like Toph was when she discovered metal bending. That also goes along with the water bender Ming Hua, being skilled enough to utilize waterbending like that without the use of her arms. One other big point that I'm not sure you guys have noticed or not is that Zaheer is so good for two reasons I think; one he was already a threat as a non bender and a capable fighter, he was dangerous enough to be locked away in a prison like that before he even got airbending. Two it is worth mentioning that outside of Korra and Tenzin's family no one has fought an avatar in over a hundred years. I think it's safe to say that most people aren't sure what they're capable of and how to deal with them.

The airbenders were nomads by definition, so I wouldn't be surprised if some were travelling between temples at the time the Fire Nation was wiping them out.

Seeing this again I started thinking about the difference in personality between all of the avatars. I see a mild and easygoing personality out of all of the male avatars, with a sense of social justice trying to help people left and right, and I think thats wan’s personality going from male to male. Then, when you look at the female avatars like kyoshi and the airbending lady that told aang to fuck ozai up (obviously korra too), they have a stronger personality, they are tough and they have a more “punish the bad guy” sense of justice. That’s rava’s personality in all of the females. I don’t know if that’s what it is, but it seems like a nice pattern

remember how in book 2 of atla iroh was talking about learning from the other elements to develop techniques? I bet lavabending can probably be thought of as an earthbender bending like a waterbender. in the same way a waterbender transitions from ice to water by accelerating the molecules, the earthbender heats up the earth in the same way, forming lava

My personal theory is that all the new airbenders are decendents of airbenders who survived the Fire Nation wiping them out. Like, perhaps a handful survived, maybe a dozen or so at most, and went into hiding in the Earth Kingdom (where most of the new airbenders are popping up). They would have likely had to hide their airbending, as the Fire Nation was searching for the avatar and thus looking for airbenders. Thus the handful of survivors would have had to intigrate with Earth Kingdom society to blend in. These new airbenders would thus be people who had a great-great-great grandparent who was an airbender

Using arms and what not in the specific bending's styles allows benders to be more efficient with their bending. You can see this in the Wan episodes where Wan's own firebending was an actual trained martial arts compared to those other fire people who were just shooting fire. YOu don't need the style, but it helps a lot. Same thing with toph. Toph being blind and learning from natural benders like the badgermoles allowed her to be far more efficient because she didn't have human distractions and learnt the original bending STYLE that wasn't influenced by humans.
