So you didn't at least try to understand why she blew up like that? I mean, with everything taken in consideration thus far?

I love how realistic it feels, because I myself was like this at one point. Hell, there are still some things that I need to learn.

The issue with Korra is that every season, she seems to revert on any character developmentfrom the previous season/story arc.

Aaron has kids, hence why he usually argues the other point in understanding Korra's POV.

Don't some of these guys have kids? I would have thought they'd understand why Korra is acting this way or why this teenage girl doesn't immediately change for the better and become an emotionally balanced perfect protagonist in just a few episodes since finding out she'd been lied to her whole life by her own dad and personal mentor.
A number of people dislike this season because of how Korra's been acting, forgetting that she not only has the whole world's safety and balance resting on her shoulders but also has to deal with the everyday teenage angst. Plus the fact that she's still going through some trust issues after finding out that a couple of people closest to her have been deceiving her. The truth is that some people just can't stand being shown the uglier side of humanity. I'm not talking about caricature evil or magnificent bastards or despicable villains. I'm talking about relatable character flaws and undesirable traits. People don't want to have to see that on their shows because it hits too close to home.
What Korra's been showing us is a character depiction that's uncomfortably ugly because it's something most of us have had to face in real life whether it's with ourselves or with a loved one. Some people hate the fact that the show is shoving that in their faces. I love it for the same reason.
2017-08-26 12:19:33 +0000 UTC
That scene in the police head quarters is what made me lose all respect for Korra and turned me off the show for so long. Still annoys the shit out of me to see it.

With all due respect, none of you have ever been a teenage girl. Being difficult for others to deal with is pretty normal. The writing isn't the best, but bouncing up and down the scale emotionally and trying to assert ourselves as individuals, rejecting authority, etc. is part of the process of transitioning from teenager to adult. It's like you said. Rebellious phase.

Regarding Naga I feel like Korra has a different life to Aang, she's not constantly traveling on her and often works in urban environments with modern mechanical vehicles and with more people than that small team. She's also more adult and not as adorably attached as Aang was with Appa.

Somebody tell them that Dee Bradley Baker does the voices of the animals in this too - Naga, Pabu and Poki (the lemur) included lol made me laugh when Eric started saying this actor's got nothing on him. And also that he voiced Tarrlok all last season...

Hey guys/gals, just a reminder: I know many of us are looking forward to the crew's reaction to certain upcoming episodes, and it can be hard to contain excitement, but remember that saying "only a few more episodes/I can't wait until so-and-so episode" is still somewhat spoilerish, if for any reason that the Blind Wave crew has specifically asked for people not to do that, as it sets up certain expectations. So as hard as it is, please try and keep the anticipation to yourself...it's hard and it sucks but it will be worth it :)

Also guys! Can't believe you missed that Dee Bradley Baker was voicing Tarrlok all of last season! :D

Aang clearly shouldn't have taken a side in the war, because he might alienate people from the fire nation who aren't really supporting Ozai. :P
Nah, that's not really a good comparision in any way, but it was what popped into mind when I was watching this. :D
I completely understand the guys' frustration with Korra's behavior - I had some of that too. The "she shouldn't be standing up for the south" part though I can't really get behind... Because of course she should. I'm pretty sure Aang would too. She just has a... somewhat problematic way of going about it. Which I get can be annoying, but I also think makes sense for her character. She was after all locked up for like, ten years of her life without any meaningful way of learning to interact with strangers. But it can get on people's nerves, totally get that. I just think it's very understandable that she acts the way she does. People don't change that fast, behaviors are very hard to get rid off.
Not really much else to say about this one. Really looking forward to going forward here.

This is a really good point, compared to that she is being surprisingly civil about dealing with all of this political bullshit. I mean her people and parents are in legitimate danger and no one seems to want to help. I'd be pissed if my boyfriend ratted me out and stopped one of the few chances I had to help. Fuck that.

She's certainly not the only avatar that has done questionable things in the spirit of doing what she thinks is right. You guys mentioned the Great Divide, but remember Aang did technically lie to all those people and trivialize their history. There was also that time with Bato that Aang was being selfish and took that message from Katara and Sokka's father and kept it. That was a shitty thing to do too and Aang had to grow and learn from it. Getting over her aggressiveness has to be part of her growth though, she needs to come to understand that there can be a middle ground between being told what to do and always doing what you want to do. An important note to keep in mind is that ever since she found out her father, Tenzin and everyone had lied to her she is basically lashing out at any and all deceit or duplicitousness that she comes across. Mako acting against her, Reiko acting against her it all has her lashing out at feeling betrayed without realizing her own part in these events. She needs to understand that and grow from it. It almost parallels Aang's story in that he was trying to learn to be more aggressive as an Avatar, here Korra needs to learn to be less so.

She does get better but right now she sucks, and it doesn't feel realistic at all, sure teenagers are stubborn and sometimes a pain in the ass but they do have some internal conflict that makes them act this way, and Korra doesn't

Plus until Toph showed up all of his friends had been kids forced into adult responsibilities due to the war. So the Gaang had pretty high levels of maturity, not withstanding a few select blunders.

Well you guys are so right in your argument about Korra not following the rules but remember when we learned about avatar roku and fire lord sozin when sozin invaded earth nation colonies avatar roku just burst down sozin front door blew up his house whooped his ass and said If I see you invade another place again it will be your permanent end and just left followed no rules didn't acknowledge him as the fire lord nothing just said I am the top power in this world I what I say goes and that is pretty much what korra is saying too so she is wrong and frustrating but it is not the first time the avatar put themselves in front of other people power and said in the name of peace we do things my way.

2017-08-25 17:43:42 +0000 UTC
I feel like Korras problems with acting up comes from the people around her. When they disagree with her and gets in her way she can't do her job as an avatar. If we compare with Aang he always got what he wanted. All the nations (except fire nation) helped Aang on his journey and did what he asked but with Korra it's different. This obstacle comes from the new world. The avatar isn't as needed in the new system and the "Always follow the avatar" concept has died out with the replacement of rules and regulations

Korra will grow up in the later seasons, thats why i like korra it really feels real with a 16 y old girl realising she has to grow up and learn from her mistakes as the seasons go, i know shes annoying as fuck right now but hold on, she gets better ;)
