This is a show one must watch and do some googling about mythology. Otherwise it can be so confusing

I don't know what to think about this show yet. It is strange and weird, yet appealing. The spider god is called "Anansi" and is Folklore from Suriname (old dutch colony) so indeed slave related. And I love the Wodan-Wednesday paralel. :)

I like to see a scene after scene after obvious (if we think about same) scene. Talking while waiting for printer to became free scene.

not Russian, but Ancient Slavic and not death, but evil (if something bad happens, Chernobog is blamed). Also his name could be translated to "Black God". and about Zorya sisters (Zorya is old version of Russian word "zarya" meaning dawn (not just morning dawn, but every sky glow when sun is not seen)) their names could be translated to Evening Dawn (old one), Morning Dawn (young one and awake) and Midnight Dawn (sleeping one).

The Russian was played by Peter Stromare. Odd guy. He played an expy of Werner Herzog on the much-loved show Leverage.

I mentioned on youtube, but I will mention here again: they usually name the gods, without making a fuss over it so it is normal to miss it :) The russian guy is named Czernobog. The sisters have deity's names also. Is a lot take in, but it made my experience with the book very dynamic (I was always googling haha)

The name that Chernabog called him is Wotan, which is Odin's germanic name.

The Coming to America stories are about the deities coming to America. The Russian guy is Chernabog, a Russian god of death.

I was just thinking of getting a Starz subscription to finish Black Sails. Yet another good reason.
