I didn't feel like this was really all that forced. I understand that it may not be something that Aang has show up until now but I think it defiantly shows the metal stage the character is at.

It definitely felt a little tight in the episode, like it was squeezed in, but I think I would've done the same thing if I were in Aang's position. Perhaps if it were spread out and not resolved until the next episode, but again, time issues with it only being 22 minutes, perfectly understandable.

It may have just been rushed. This episode was jam packed. You got two new characters (Bato and the Bounty Hunter), Sokka's development into a leader, Aang's denial, Katara's necklace, a chase, and an action sequence.

I think it was perfectly in character because we have to remember...Aang is 12. He may be 112 due to the 100 years in ice, but he's a 12 year-old kid. A 12 year-old who has no family or friends besides Katara and Sokka (and Momo and Appa, but they're more pets). I think that scene served as a great contrast to the last episode, when Sokka said "Sometimes I forget how powerful he is". Well, now it's "Sometimes we forget he's still a kid", even if it wasn't said.

I think it's kind of out of character for Aang to act the way he does here, though the feelings he was having made sense. I just don't see him going that far, even though I understand he's a kid and will make stupid mistakes.
