Lore Accurate

Hey folks!

Work on this month's Prince of Persia comic proceeds like mad! I'm having a ton of fun working on a franchise that juiced my imagination growing up as a kid in the 90s.

I typically go full-tilt into the lore of a franchise before making a lewd comic on it. It's very important to me that the story is congruent to what already exists. My personal standard is that if the original creators were to read my comics, they would (after throwing up) instantly detect the love I have for their works. 😆

This isn't anything special about me. I'm finding that my comics are turning into homages to my childhood and the stories that helped me get through it. I had a fucked up time growing up. I was raised more by movies, games, and comics than I was by my parents. It's from these works that I gained my sense of the world. So I want to do right by them as that means I'm doing right by me.

Prince of Persia was a seminal game for me. It was my gateway drug into gaming. The fact that it was made by one guy - Jordan Mechner - made him an icon in my mind. I didn't realize that recently he started illustrating his creative journey in several books. I just finished reading Replay, which is an amazing graphic novel he wrote and drew.

Based on that and his production notes, I'm incorporating several characters and plot threads that he left lying around in his games. For example - the Witch. She shows up as a cliffhanger character in PoP2, and she was supposed to be the main villain in PoP3 - which was never made.

I'm also realistically fleshing out how the Princess's story will unfold now that she's submitted to Jaffar. It'll be very different than the ending we get if the Prince had won!

Well, that's it for now! I'll drop a few more sneak peeks as we wind down towards month's end. This'll probably be a 150+ page comic that I'll drop on 2 June. I want to follow that with an epilogue with a few more spicy scenes and story I couldn't quite squeeze into this month's drop. 😅
