I think it’s a better transformation if the head doesn’t transform and they’re still alive in the end.

She's about to be erased, her memories, beliefs, dreams....all of it about to vanish and be replaced by a snarling animal. And the worst part is that she feels it happening. She knows these are the last few moments before she's squelched out of existence. I suppose that's always a rough experience...but what can you do. It has to play out, no point fighting it.
