Added 2025-12-09 19:04:16 +0000 UTCThis is wild. The episode really hit with a grim outlook, well, a reinforcement of the reality of the storyline. There was a lot to talk about at the end, but more from a "I wonder what sort of emotion the end of this anime will leave me with" type of thought process. I liked seeing all the throwback memories, but man they are dark.

2025-12-11 18:13:13 +0000 UTCYeah I think the subtitles made a mistake. Probably because in English, we generally call our siblings by name, not “brother.” Anna/Nina is saying brother, not Johan. General Wolf named him Johan after the picture book character. Names and identity is a major theme of Monster. Also should mention, the flashback in the very beginning of the episode is quite important to understanding Johan. So are the picture book stories, including The Nameless Monster and The God of Peace, although I wouldn’t say they’re 1-to-1 allegories.
