Haikyu!! S3 Ep 2

This match went how I imagined it would go.
The idea of the left-handed hitter makes 100% sense WHY it would be very difficult to deal with. My question at the end, during the post-episode thoughts, really stands out tho.
Looking forward to more!

Tendo is one of my favorite characters in this series, he is very loveably punchable. Also, the cameras in the face of the team while they're meeting reminds me of how in football they will just grab coaches while they're trying to regroup their team for halftime and shove a camera in their face and ask them what they would change to not be down 30 points at halftime

Ethan Sicle

If I was on the court and someone is acting like him, its not gonna go well, im prob getting kicked out hahahha

Hmmmmm Nahhhhhh LOL I gotta rant about this tomorrow

I’ve noticed with reactors that this season in particular is super telling of how deeply they’re immersed, as if it’s happening in real time and those are OUR BOYS playing out there. Especially with these first few episodes which can be so frustrating to watch. That’s just good storytelling though. Thanks as always for the genuine rxn Tony, can’t wait to see more

They did just finish playing 2 matches the day before this, so they haven't had time to practice at all specifically for this game. Ushijima is also the only left-handed player they've played against in this whole tournament, on top of being by the best hitter they've played as well. They probably could've prepared a little more for left-handed hitting if they had more time between games though.

On top of what everyone about your question at the end: It also worth mentioning that this tournament is very short. It takes 2 or 3 days. They basically played multiple matches a day, and finals were the next day after the match with Seijoh . So, once they knew they're going to the finals and will play against a lefty, they were already out of time for any meaningful practice. Why they didnt practice against left handed hitters before the tournament? As others answered: - They were busy practicing fundamentals and new strategies in the training camp - Finding skilled/strong left hitter to practice with is hard - Practicing such a specific skill, when you're not even guaranteed to face a left handed player might have been not a top priority. - Ushiwaka strength is not only that he is left-handed. He is already skilled and physically strong. Being left-handed is only an additional weapon/cherry on top

For the question at the end, they would have to find a team to practice who had a left handed hitter that was ALSO good. It's just not easy to find that I imagine. Even if they found a team to practice with those conditions, just a few matches wouldn't change that they still play mostly against right handed people and they will still be used to that. It's not worth the trouble finding a team for a few matches against a left handed hitter, it would be more valuable to spend time on just practicing normally (fundamentals, general strategies) rather than "preparing against a left handed hitter". Their team is not the only team they had to face in this tournament. They are having trouble right now, but like they showed us with Nishinoya, it's not the end of the world, they just need bit of time to adapt in real time. The main problem with Ushiwaka is that he's really really good, he's at a pro level. The fact that he's left handed is just something extra annoying. The training arc in Season 2 is the best thing they could do, they played a lot of practice matches against National Level Teams which was really lucky to begin with. It's hard to find those connections. Tldr: Not only it would be hard to find, it's not worth it either. Practice fundamentals instead.

Do you remember how they kept calling him "Japan" lol it was because this dude played for the Youth World team. Homie played in representation of Japan. I think he is as "pro" as he can be for his age. So honestly, even if they could manage to find anotther lefty, "Japan" would still be as unstoppable as he currently is. Also, respect to my guy Tanaka for tanking that hit 🤣🤣

Your question at the end makes sense but there's a fundamental difference with the culture of Japan. They touch on why it's so rare to find a lefty a bit later in the season so I'm not sure about just saying it outright but it's not particularly feasible to run drills on for this one person on this one team that's just #1 for that Region. Waaayyy more righty players so they build those fundamentals so you at least have some base to make adjustments on when you encounter a lefty. It's new to the audience, in the stands, and to us as an audience but the players already know. Nishinoya (our libero) said "Well hello, left." at the end of last episode so he knew the challenge was coming. They just don't have a way for prepping that other than real time.

My boy Tendo aint punchable. Just a lil extra. You will forgive him I hope.

I believe left handed people in East Asian countries are super rare. Being left handed used to be something that needed to be “corrected” at a young age. It’s not so much the case anymore but back then it was a common practice
