Summer Time Rendering Ep 5

Okkkk I had a significant amount of questions at the end of the episode.
Well, I guess I asked a lot of them along the way as well.
This is a killer anime, but the details are a bit fuzzy once we got to the shadow fiend creature.
Great ideas and this respawn system is a lot of fun.

The 2D Demon King line was just the second half of the metaphor which you missed the first part. Essentially he's saying that Shinpei's ability is like a video game where the hero can respawn over and over again to defeat the final boss, so the only way the final boss could win would be to become aware of reality and cut the power to the console. Basically hinting that he at least has some sort of idea what fuels Shinpei's power and how to cut it off. The Shotgun lady's name is Nagumo Ryuunosuke which is the same name as the author of the book "Swamp Man" that Shinpei was reading. That's why he refers to her as a novelist at one point and in the Japanese you can hear him call her "Nagumo-Sensei" as that's the honorific you use for authors. This episode particularly throws a lot of information at you which is kind of the classic overload the audience with terms and dialogue and questions that are confusing that slowly gets explained over the rest of the episodes. Excited to see more, glad you're enjoying the show.

The 2D and 3D thing was an analogy, he likened Shin's ability to restart from a save point like a video game with a console. So him becoming aware of "electricity" is lime becoming aware of the "game" outside of normal reality that is his ability to restart. Idk if I explained that well πŸ˜…

Yea you got the bit about stepping on shadows right. The 2d bit was just him monologuing. You missed the line beforehand where he said something like "if the hero always respawns, the final boss can only win if he turns off the game console" when he figured out shinpei respawns. So that was just the next line in the metaphor, you didn't miss anything important
