First new page of the year, and Suria's already got the star eyes!

I managed to beat Balatro just before the year ended after being gratefully gifted it for Christmas, and man... What a game. What a game-ass game. I had no idea going in just HOW much it was only, purely a video game. I kinda figured from the visuals and marketing that they're be SOME sorta story, even just a minimal one. Like, I dunno, Jimbo the Joker would pop in between rounds and hint at some weird poker apocalypse lore or deep clown character motivations, but... nah. It's just a game. Anything that isn't in service to the cards, it's gone. It's kinda weirdly refreshing to just play a video game that isn't concerned with ~LORE~. And yet, it's also something that can only work in a video game, too. There's an argument to be made that Balatro is this generation's Tetris. But I'd have to stop playing it to make that argument.
