Added 2024-07-17 13:53:16 +0000 UTCWhile I enjoyed Ororun’s design because I have a thing for dark-haired broody characters, it definitely shouldn't be a design for Natlan. Even worse knowing now that his name was taken from a Yoruba deity, which I still didn't know when I made this illustration a few days ago, before this whole Natlan fiasco blew up on twitter.
While all other regions were carefully based in specific cultures, for Natlan it seems they just mashed together anything related to the theme "tribes" in the most generic and disrespectful way possible. African with Mexican with Latin American with Maori? Sure, why not? And let’s make all of their clothes look like the most generic final-fantasy-ish thing possible! And even better, let's make all of them whiter than paper! 🤡
What Hoyoverse is doing is plain disgusting and disrespectful, and it's just sad to know that they probably won't lift a finger to change any of this. 🥲
Anyway... all things considered, I decided to post this illustration here only. :T

The worst is that they remain completely silent about this, even about Sumeru, to this day, so I don't expect they will say a single word about Natlan 💀
