A scary story: one day me and my family watched TV in the evening (an entertainment channel broadcasting some TV series) and then went to bed (the tv was turned off). At about 2 or 3 am in the night the TV turned on by itself, switched to a religious prayer channel and turned on the maximum volume. Everyone woke up and I remember I couldn't go to sleep that night it was too scary lol. None of our family members are religious and the channel we watched before going to bed was completely different from the one that played at 2 am. Now that I am thinking about it probably was some prank with a different remote that just somehow worked with the TV we had. We lived in a condo so maybe our neighbours tried to prank us lol. That's what I tell myself at least to not get creeped out by it.

Higurashi (2000s) is quite scary especially s2

Like people are saying, horror anime is just uncommon. I don't know how to explain the exact reason but it's really hard to make right in animated form, most of the time is done horrible. You probably experienced horror books or videogames made into movies (or movies into videogames) and they just dont hit the same. Well, that's very common in anime. Sometimess they do it right, even in animes that are not mainly horror. The first half of Steins;Gate comes to mind, the creepy feeling of Okabe feeling like he's been watched and in danger was done really well imo, but yeah, that for a whole show is a different story. There's still really good ones, Monster is one of them.

One anime that isn't strictly horror but definitely has horror elements is Mushi-Shi. It's an excellent show but it's fairly slow-paced, so it might not vibe with you. Maybe something to 3 episode rule at some point.

Anorus

Oh yea, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni at some points was absolutely batshit insane.

Baka

I don’t see Ghost Hunt on your list, so will add that one. Has a pretty good horror vibe on some of the cases. Some are definitely nightmare fuel. The first episode actually starts with a similar scene as this episode.

Mikage

Shin Sekai Yori/From the New World isn't really horror, but it is a thriller/mystery type of anime. Kokkoku isn't really horror, but it's also mysterious with creepy vibes. Besides that, I second The Promised Neverland. JUST season 1 though.

This was a great episode, mystery is always fun and those stories at the end made it even better. That chandelier crescendo one legit feels like something straight out of an opening of a horror movie.

Drow1270

dude what.

Drow1270

Not sure about horror but the only one that comes to mind is Another, there's not really that many actual horror animes. Higurashi kinda fits the bill a little bit but it's too cheesy and gets boring fast af.

Drow1270

hahahhahahahah

The fucking scary filter lmaaaaaoo

Ah, The Promised Neverland, it could’ve been so much better it hurts lol. 1st season is superb and definitely gives you chills.

I’ve never had a paranormal experience, although my Mom has told me countless stories of her and my family’s experiences. - Back in rural Mexico where my Grandmother was living next to a stream, she had my aunt in some kind of baby bed on the floor at home. She was busy and my uncle starts yelling that my aunt is being dragged away. Grandma runs out and sees the bed being pulled towards the stream, she manages to get to it in time and says she could hear the sounds of bells and that whatever was dragging the bed disappeared into the stream. I know that Gnomes are said to live near bodies of water and my Mom agrees that’s probably what it was. Have heard other stuff too; An encounter with a well dressed man who my Mom thought was the devil himself, actually hearing La LLorona wailing at night 🥶. The stories from when family lived in Mexico are some of the creepiest stories I’ve ever heard (the country is older than the US not to mention a lot of structures are built over pyramids and other native grounds).

"Another" is a pretty good horror anime imo

A list of anime horror things I can think of: -KAKURENBO: HIDE AND SEEK (a one-off short film) -UZUMAKI (first episode only. The less you know, the better.) -PARANOIA AGENT (I now have a fear of children holding baseball bats) -THE PROMISED NEVERLAND (I now have a fear of Orphanages) -MONSTER (I now have a fear of Europeans... jk, but this one is more psychological horror thriller.) -MADE IN ABYSS (Yes, I know this one has been discussed and the matter settled. Still, there are some moments in this one that are downright terrifying, so I at least want to mention it.) -DEVILMAN CRYBABY (Out of everything on this list, this one probably fucked me up the most.) Some additional horror anime that I know but have not watched. -BERSERK -MONONOKE -ELFEN LIED! -ANOTHER -BOOGIPOP PHANTOM -SHIKI -HELLSING -FLOWERS OF EVIL -MIERUKO-CHAN If you want to venture into anime horror films, either "Paprika" or "Perfect Blue" are going to be your best options.

Jet Man

Really fun episode

Sk dragon

Sadly horror in anime is not really a thing. There might be a few but i have not heard of them

I had sleep paralysis once when I was 15. Woke up to a pitch black hand with super long fingers hovering over my face and a female voice asking me "What if I pressed down on your nose and mouth?" As I was starting to get a bit more clearheaded the hand pulled back and I heard her run off into the hallway outside my room (my door was open). What´s freaky about this is that I heard her knock down a basket that stood on a stool outside my room and when I left my room the fucking thing actually lay on the floor. It´s been on that stool for ages in a super stable position and I was home alone. I was legit scared for the next couple of weeks. The way her footsteps sounded really matched the sound of our parquet floor too, I was actually debating whether someone broke in but we lived on the third floor at the time and I never heard the apartment door being opened despite it being right across my room.
