I'd say it's okay to still be confused about Jinshi's relation to various characters because there's a lot of contradicting information the anime has purposely given you. This current season had Jinshi say he was told that the current emperor is his brother but that's unlikely to be true. In the first season it was pretty much confirmed that his parents are the current emperor and concubine Ah Duo (she left the palace during the first season but she and Jinshi looked almost identical). The Empress dowager and the previous emperor would be Jinshi's grandparents biologically, but he would've been raised as their child along side the current emperor.

Based on this episode and a previous episode, it seems like the Empress Dowager and "Jinshi" also both believe that they are mother and son. However, Maomao suspects that "Jinshi" is actually the son of the current Emperor and his ex-concubine Ah-Duo, and he was switched at birth with the actual younger brother of the emperor. But, at the moment there is no hard evidence that this is true. Also, I have to use "Jinshi" in quotes because everyone except the people most closest to the royal family think that "Jinshi" is just a high-ranking eunuch, definitely not related to the emperor in any way, but we the audience know that he's just faking that.

2025-03-13 18:55:17 +0000 UTCSo as of right here in the anime, they want you to be confused as to who jinshi really is, so its up to you if you want the actual answer of who he is and why. the rabbit hole can get pretty long but definitely worth checking out at some point
