Yeah it was weird for me too when I first watched it. I actually stopped watching it at this episode for a long time. Lol I'm pretty sure I finished the season but I really loved the first season and 7 eps into the second season it felt like a completely different show. Oh and yes I remember when Greese's economy collapsed it was right after ours, in the US, did in 2008.

The joke is supposed to tie into the irony that Shadow doesn't believe that the company the girls made is his to begin with. To them, he owns it, they just run it. He wanted to make the credit collapse to take it over and rebuild it, with them running it. Essentially just reestablishing the status-quo. His plan fails when the girls translate his apology letter and get the gold for themselves. He thinks Gettan stole it and goes and beats him up. In the end, the status-quo is reestablished and nothing really mattered... except recruiting the fox girl to their team I guess. Honestly, even when you understand it, I feel this arc was the weakest. Especially now that I'm watching it again with you, I didn't realize how slow and boring it is. Especially compared to what's coming up.

He wanted to crash the economy because he wanted to be the one to revive it and be the most successful. what Cid doesn't realize is that shadow garden/mitsogoshi company is essentially "his" and he owns it. But he thinks that the shadow girls stole his ideas and are profiting off it and he doesn't like that. So now that his plan failed, he thinks they will all be mad at him. Of course they aren't, and they just think he is all knowing and saved the mitsogoshi company in the end. Cid also thinks Gettan(wolf guy) stole his money (from the cave) and that's why he was digging holes in the snow at the end to find it. What he didn't know is that it was the shadow girls that nabbed the money because Cid wrote a note telling them where it is. He didn't expect them to actually decipher the note, he was just messing with them. Also don't forget in this point of the story, he still is clueless and doesn't even know there is a diablos cult or anything (the main villain group) he still thinks hes just casually fucking up some random bandits every now and then. I'm glad you are still enjoying the show, but I can tell you are kinda getting tired of it/missing a lot of cues lol. This arc is a hit or miss for a lot people. I love it cause John Smith shenanigan's. The next arc is very good and I think you'll enjoy it alot. By the way, next episode and only next episode, is a filler episode that is anime original (not in books) its kinda more of a whatever type of episode. So the true next arc begins episode 9. Don't skip next episode though its pretty fun!

Because this was chosen for the DAD series and from what people have told you, you're probably REALLY not taking anything serious and expecting something like Konosuba where everything is a joke. I think this would've been a good thing to watch later on for the main channel.

I guess it's not for everyone but this here is why I assume some people have said that this anime is not for everyone and I have to agree. To me it's such a breath of fresh air. Too many animes with OP main characters are way too serious and the story sucks big time (not even going to mention music, art and animation). There's almost nothing like this out there. I don't think this qualified for the cringe tier watchlist as it's not really cringe, it has cringe elements but I think Demon Slayer is more cringe than this for example, I can't stand Zenitsu and some other tropes in the series. I dont think you need to have seen a lot of animes before this to really enjoy it but I also don't think it's an anime for new people who have never seen unserious animes either.

Yea, hilarious...

I think he didn't expect the "code" he wrote to be such a message to Shadow Garden lol. He thought it was that Gettan guy who stole the money. This series is so funny because of that, you can take one half seriously and one half not seriously and it will still make sense to a point. Let's see where it goes now I guess this arc is now over for now. Shadow can say whatever comes to mind and it will turn out to be true XD.
