Steins;Gate Ep 7

This anime is so damn good.
I am getting super invested. We need more stuff like this.

Steins;Gate Ep 7

Comments

14:36 - "... and then he gives the GIRL the number" Daga, otoko da moment

d_swordfish

Odd Taxi is definitely a must watch.

Baka

From the new world would be good one too, be interesting to see if its something he'd enjoy but certainly worth a shot. Shame it is quite unknown these days

Jarod S

I am the single worst person to ask because I don't like Higurashi in the first place. The VN is bad. I heard both anime are even worse.

A37

Since we're going through interesting serious mystery suspense scifi/fantasy recommends anyone else seen Kokkoku? I really enjoyed it and thought it was super interesting and it's extremely quick at only 12 episodes. It went to amazon prime instead of cruncyroll just like Inuyashiki: Last Hero so it seems to be similarly lesser known. My pipe dream would be Tony watching From The New World but it's hard enough finding anime fans who've even heard of it

Nick K

Just like JoeyGuy I am also eagerly anticipating his best ever english line

Nick K

Link click, Monster, Odd taxi are all pretty good picks for subsequent titles

P_ateric

It’s more accurate to say that Steins;Gate 0 is a midquel because it chronologically takes place between two episodes in the first season.

James

Fate zero is a fantastic recommendation

SinuHan

As others have said, any of Psycho pass, Ghost in the Shell, Link Click, or Summertime Render would be great follow ups to this.

Jarod S

If the goal for this slot is more like this then I cannot recommend ghost in the shell enough. Specifically the two anime movies. The S.A.C. Anime is fun, but not nearly the same tone. Another good recommendation would be psycho pass. Both of those delving into cyberpunk. And one really out there recommendation is fate zero. Because while it is a battle anime. It’s an adult drama first. The meeting of kings episode is 20 minutes of philosophical debate about kingship and I cannot look away from it.

Avalon

Oh yeah, I definitely hear what people are talking about the audio, it's noticeable in the intro. It's like someone put a doubler effect on top or something. It's not an issue, but yeah.

Lixien

Super interesting take on a slight distopian near future with A.I. and over policing, very Orwellian! But super dope

kail santini

Psycho pass!!!!! Please Tony it would be another great one to watch

kail santini

@Logan H S;G0 is both a sequel and a prequel in a sense, but explaining that would require some spoilery stuff, but if you're interested I'm sure a google search would explain it to you

Klarin Black

Idk man time travel is confusing

SimplySora

?? S;G0 happens in december if i remember well, it's totally a sequel. You Can stop After s1 BUT S2 is a must seen

Logan H

"Summertime rendering" is a really good show and has mystery/sci-fi aspects which are similar to Steins Gate. "Re-zero" is similar too but takes place in a fantasy style world

kinetic98

Was going to recommend this too. Steins;Gate and Psycho- Pass are two of my absolute favorites. They just dont make em with that 2000s/ early 2010s Era feeling anymore, I really miss that time period of anime

Flare

True, though I’d describe it more like… a parallel season 1? Without spoiling anything? But yeah not TECHNICALLY required, but I would consider a must watch to get the full story.

SimplySora

I'd like to add that Steins;Gate 0 is not a sequel to the story, but kinda like a prequel of certain events that take place later in SG. It's not totally required, however if he's interested in that then yeah great. Though only watching Steins Gate S1 is a valid option.

Sean

Words taken right out of my mouth. Ghost in the Shell is an all time favorite of mine and it's wild to think of how it is an anime with a huge influence in Hollywood.

Jet Man

But I also think dub is good sometimes. In ep 8, Daru's line during cosplay is hillarious in dub, lol.

d_swordfish

I'm on the edge of my seat for his greatest English delivery. You know the one

JoeyGuy7

One thing that stands out about this show is that it doesn't overexplain everything. A lot of shows would go into great detail about how exactly the phone microwave works etc and this show knows what matters and what doesn't, and let's us learn the rules alongside the characters

JoeyGuy7

Man, just rewatching this show here making me feel so good. FFS this anime is one of my favourite, it's so damn good. One per week, double, triple... doesnt matter. Just keep going, this stuff is gorgeous :) The moment when Okabe was waiting response from Titor but got message first from Ruka, then call from Daru and Mayuri, and then them all together on playground - it's a demonstration how they care about Okarin. This "set-up" phase wants to show us the chemistry between characters before things get crazy.

d_swordfish

What do you think of the higurashi anime?

SinuHan

"Celeb-Sevente-e-e-en" - awesome! :)

d_swordfish

This show is good now, and it gets better later on. Also, I highly recommend starting your journey into the "Ghost in the Shell" franchise starting with the 1995 original movie. It's a sci-fi seinen anime that is targeted towards older adults, and goes deep with ethical dilemmas and philosophy surrounding A.I (or in more general terms, consciousness and identity). It has been said that Ghost in the Shell was the direct inspiration for The Matrix movies, and Steven Spielberg produced a live Hollywood adaptation of the anime (which ended up being a bust).

James

I'm so glad we didn't go down the route of watching the show in dub because we wouldn't get Okabe's goofy ass japanese voice actor giving people nicknames in english like the dork Okabe is

Marthan

It's not as popular as it should be but Dead Dead Demons Dedede Destruction is a GREAT real world Sci fi show with a big mystery at the center

JoeyGuy7

Yea that's fair

JoeyGuy7

True 🙏

Szayel H

An excellent recommendation

Jet Man

It was odd for me too.

Jet Man

no i'm definitely hearing what you're hearing. sometimes it slightly sounds like the audio's traveling through a tin can

Marthan

Season 1 of psycho pass is all you need

Jet Man

Tu-tu-ru! It's Wednesday - that means SG on TonyTV. Like and comment first - then watch.

d_swordfish

Probably my earbuds. They were great before I busted them, now they act pretty weird on low volume :/

cue

More stuff like this? With a great story and use of time travel? LINK CLICK, enough said. People are missing out on this gem.

Sarai

And so it begins… Also for future reference, Steins;Gate 0 is required viewing, but the movie is not unless you just wanna.

SimplySora

The way you like mysteries and a more mature writing style I'm sure you would love anime written by a man named Gen Urobuchi. The best recommendations would be Fate/zero, Madoka Magica, and Psycho Pass. The thing with Psycho pass is that only season 1 was written by him and it tells since the other 2 seasons were not as good.

Szayel H

Psycho- pass would be a good option after this finishes, it's also a sci-fi dystopian story with great characters and philosophies.

Lucipurr

I'm not sure. Looks good to me

DrumRollTony

I agree, that's why I said not all seinen, but I still think it will be easier for him to know which animes he will enjoy the most by separating between demographics given what he's thought about the animes he's watched recently.

Loayza

Maybe it’s just my end but I noticed a very slight phasing of the anime audio, or some compression

cue

My bad I got a bit aggro lol. It's just a big pet peeve of mine, imo demo's are too wide, it's like saying if you like the sopranos you'll love downton abbey because they're both aimed at adults

JoeyGuy7

Is the sound off for anyone else? I tried killing the Patreon app, and verified that YouTube sounds normal, so it's not my tablet. I noticed it the most during the opening and ending.

Alberto Munoz

Uhm I think it's obvious that at no point did I say it was a genre, quite the contrary. This comment is continuing an earlier one in another video, so encompassing his tastes, it's safest to go with seinen, since Vinland Saga (the anime in the video I'm referencing) is not mystery/science fiction.

Loayza

You might want to check out something like summertime render after this. Very similar premise, just with a very different spin, but also extremely good and suspenseful.

Bautista

Remember kids, seinen/shounen/shojo are NOT genres, they're demographics. You should actually say "mysteries/Sci fi are your thing"

JoeyGuy7

Good to see you enjoying this. Maybe anime based on other mystery Visual Novels might be your game. It's such a shame Umineko's anime adaptation is kinda asscheeks, because the VN is a masterpiece.

A37

As mentioned before, seinen is your thing, though not all of it as within that demographic you have the full range of genres, but at least it's easier to choose by limiting the options that way. Although S;G technically isn't seinen since it's a visual novel (only manga get those categories depending on the magazine they're published in) its manga adaptations are, so it counts. Other examples: Vinland Saga, Eighty-Six (it's a light novel but its manga adaptation is seinen), The Apothecary Diaries (same case as Eighty-Six) and Oshi no Ko, this last one may be perhaps the most different, as I said before you have a whole range of genres but I think all 4 of them you enjoyed very much.
