I mean there are tons of great anime with mature stories out there already and I do agree it really fleshes out and expands the medium positively. I'm likely being pedantic here but we do already get mature storytelling in anime pretty frequently, whether or not its a successful adaptation of it is a different discussion and yes its very rare we get something of Vinland Saga's caliber (though I think that has more to do with just how high caliber Vinland is rather than an issue with anime) but I just want to point out mature stories are actually fairly common even if it's not necessarily every season. Also luckily we can always go back and watch the boatload of mature stories that have already aired. I definitely agree we need more of this and less isekai/ecchi low hanging fruit but I don't think its quite that dire either.

Those who dislike the anime for its unrealistic explession way or only for kids...etc, should only watch movie Great R〜GOD F〜SHARK N or 🇯🇵's ZATOICH(actually I love them all though). well anyway...from next epis are (I don't know how to say...) something ++.

2024-08-07 08:02:01 +0000 UTCThis show proves the point to me that more mature stories are desperately needed in Anime. We only ever get a show this mature after another 30 issekai or ecchi shows. Shows like these are what elevate the medium of Anime as entertainment.

2024-08-06 17:12:38 +0000 UTCi mean, when i read the manga after season 1 it was definitely not a story that i could predict with the tropes i knew of. everything makes sense in retrospect but i was consistently led astray. you can see a bit of that in season 1 with the revenge plot not panning out, and it just keeps going. the author is not reliant on tropes at all and its crazy. like trying to build a tower without a scaffold.

I was more so hoping to maybe take your thinking in a different direction. I'll keep that sort of thing in mind though. Maybe it was just my nostalgia of watching this the first time and being totally blindsided. I'm going to respectfully disagree about the similarities between Thorkell and Thorgil. That they love to fight is where the similarities begin and end IMO. Thorgil is more like Bjorn I think. He just loves violence and killing. As we learned in his duel with Thorfinn, Thorkell is much more introspective than he seems. He sees battle as an opportunity to perfect himself. "I'm missing something too" he said. I think for Thorgil, battle is all there is just because he loves it. For Thorkell, there being something other than battle, like there was for Thors, just hasn't occurred to him.
