Eighty-Six Ep 23

Thx for the info

DrumRollTony

One of my favorite book series holy shit it gets sooo good and the romance ?!!! To die for I swear my toes were giggling like crazy under my sheets while reading it’s just so real and pure. The growth of all the characters is insane. Shin is such an amazing character and his growth had me in tears. Books are a must you also get a glimpse of fidos perspective as he grew up with shin etc. There’s sooo much & Book 13 is out already well in Japanese the English translation comes out in December yay!! The author says it’s getting close so I’m think 15 or even 17 in total oooooo we will see but Asato Asato is incredible! Oooo and we get illustrations too throughout the book which I love

ミッシェル

It's the only light novel I have. I think I'm in vol 8 or 9, I forget. So good.

This whole show is so full of subtle symbolism. Direction is insane. The last scene at the end. She "catches" up to them and they are standing at the end of a railway. She was standing on a railway in ep 10 when she woved to catch up. Just blows my mind. Watched the show as it aired, but this rewatch brought a lot of subtle detail i missed the first time.

Also note Kurena's leg/foot in the photo at the end 🤣

Alexiel Knight

From what ive heard the team or director is currently producing the Nier Automata anime. So I guess there is a chance after that's finished.

Love this anime so much. And this is only season 1… it just keeps getting better (according to LN readers lol). At least they didn’t end the season without them meeting lmao. I love Shin and especially Lena, they’re so well written and honestly really inspiring Now, if only they’d announce Season 2… 😔

Chelle

Came here for the mecha zombies, stayed for the boy meeting his Discord girlfriend.

I'm glad you liked this show. As someone who has and still is in the military, the amount of little things thing show has gotten right really enhanced my watching experience. One of my favorite anime shows from recent times and one of the few I've binged.

This episode is part 2 of what I personally think are the two best directed episodes of anime ever. They went back to the split perspective style and ended the episode essentially 3 times, with credits rolling for Shin, then for Lena, and then with them together. Such a good way to arrange the episode. I love that their endings both line up with them leaving the memorial in the same spot and the same pose, to face eachother saluting. Fido's recordings are great, probably favorite shot of the entire show is Shin growing up and running to catch his friends. LilaS is the song playing during the end, and has become my favorite of the show cause of this episode. Also, probably the greatest crying face I've ever seen. It's not over done, it just feels real and emotional to me. Interesting fact, the in show date is March 20th when they meet, and because of the 3 month delay due to production, this episode aired in Japan on March 20th. I'm glad you enjoyed this show, rewatching it through you solidified it as my all time favorite. Since there hasn't been any season 2 news, I think I'm finally going to pick up reading the rest of the series.

Who the fuck keeps cutting onions in here

After rewatching show, these last two episodes as it turns out is FULL of intentional artistic direction. My favourite being last episode when the actual 'frame' of the camera would be stepped into, behind, around etc and change from black to white to symbolise ones despair and the others hope. The fact that the frame came alive to eat and suffocate shin but then in the end, its Lena who comes and 'steps' through in front of the frame, almost breaking him out of that suffocation. A beautiful and gorgeous finale these last two episodes were, what a journey.

Man the final scene is just so perfect. To answer your question the novels are way ahead of the show but a season 2 has not be announced yet, It’ll probably (hopefully) come one day but it’s probably gonna take a while.

AussieBoy

I love the detail in the scene at around minute 14 with the commanding Alba officer's photos on his desk clearly being him with two 86s who he just grabbed for a photo and his family with their hair dyed lmao. Backpedaling at full throttle to save his skin, at least we got to see Lena stare him down one last time.

LegionaresCZ

The final scene in this was actually the epilogue to the first volume of the series since the author didn't anticipate doing more (end of ep11 was the end of vol 1), so since it actually became a full on series Shin and Lena just weren't allowed to meet until that moment which is why we got blue balled in ep22

Danyul

From what I've read this only covers like 1/4 of the books. We need another season!!!!!!!

JoeyGuy7

Sadly there’s no announcement for S2 although the novel series is still going. I’m eagerly waiting for them to announce it someday.

Alomy

🤣🤣🤣🤣

“Give her a fucking hug” hahahaha same thoughts I had! But we finally got the reunion we wanted. She finally caught up with them. Very bittersweet that we’re at the end now. The light novels are way ahead. Hoping we get more episodes.

Veronica

Such a cathartic release. So much damage, so much trauma, all for that beautiful, poignant, happy ending. I’ve watched 86 through a half dozen times now and I still get so happy for that ending scene.

Clayton Odom

Well, what's next is gonna be balls to the wall. And it's quite likely that there will be a next season. That will take a while though.

Ben

I didn't! That's awesome

DrumRollTony

If you didn't catch it Tony their hands made a 86

HmoobV4j15

If they have French Toast, does that mean the French are real? 🤔
