The song is about ordinary lives being totally destroyed during a painful economic transition in China (main lyric line: living the same way for 30 years, until the great building collapsed), and the song is extremely impactful in China. Omnipotent youth hotel is arguably the best band in China. Their only 2 albums are 10 years apart and both are amazing. Also the instrument is indeed cello (including the part that sounds like saxophone).

It is true, people much prefer their short term music consumption over longer ones. But I often enjoy the longer ones over the shorter ones. My all time favorite piece of music is 65-minutues across 5 parts.

The band itself is also based in that city, and a lot of their songs are about the generation. Also I agree your opinion on the pop music (not only western pop imo). People don't have time anymore to just sit down and enjoy music and do nothing else anymore. So musics with catchy melodies and easy-understanding compositions are more likely to be successful commercially.

2024-02-06 07:42:05 +0000 UTCFinally!!! This is the best rock band in China, and arguably one of the best rock band in Chinese-speaking region (including Taiwan and Hong Kong). This is the most famous song from the band, although I don’t think it is their best. Their best song, in my opinion, is an 11 minute track in their second album. So 5 minutes or so is definitely not long to them lol. And they do play saxophone. When I watched them live, I think at most they have 10 performers. Their variety is amazing. Anyway, thanks for reacting to this song and thanks Robin. There are some fantastic bands in Taiwan and Hong Kong as well. Hope you will react to those one day ^^
