Pokémon Dream Series Thoughts

Okay, I’ve wanted to do a dark, realistic pokemon world for a very long time and I know I stretch myself pretty thin with everything I want to write, but I fear that if I never start than it will never get done.

I will only work on this when I’ve met my goals for the week which is the same as it always has been:

TO Chapter

X2 - TO 2nd Draft

UE

ATM - most bi-weekly Thursday

Once all those are done in the week then I can work on this project.

Now, the start and theme of the series is what I want your help on because I’ve thought up two paths that I could go.

pokemon can use every move in their pool if trained and used properly, making for crazy combinations and possibilities.

I will use a random numbers generator for a multiple of purposes to put my creativity and adaptability to the test.  This means the trainer can lose battles or not catch pokemon.

Gender of pokemon and the trainer will be randomly generated.

There is a recommendation from the league to travel in this dangerous world with one to two companions.  Depending on the gender rolled for the MC it will swap up the roles.

Which of the following do you think would be best?

Option 1:  Random nobody trainer MC that has a mom and dad and just goes out into the world.

Picking up random Pokémon along the way as I roll randomly to see what to catch with everything in that particular area available from all games and even the shows.

Many more pokemon and less attachments that can be developed.

Option 2: Random nobody trainer MC that has a mom and dad and just goes out into the world.

I’d be more selective about which Pokémon the trainer collects to be more versatile with battling.  More than 6 but a main core setup.

Trainer becomes attached to their pokemon and is very careful about who to catch as they plan on them being a part of the core team.

Option 3:  OP parents or comes from a strong line of powerful trainers. Mom or dad are in the picture and maybe siblings that gives them some self pressure to be better.

Option 5:  OP parents and mother is one of the greatest breeder in the world, involved with the mewtwo project and sends modified OP eggs of very specialized Pokémon for the MC to raise and develop a close relationship with.

The MC would have to learn about these Pokémon and how to utilize their great potential and bring it out.  Just because the mother gave their kid op Pokémon doesn’t mean they’ll train or use them right and they’ll have to learn from mistakes and the plots raised from the powers at be that have taken an interest with the MC or their companions for their own purpose.

This path is less about catching and more about training, battles, relationships with Pokémon and companions with the expanding world and world plots they get mixed up in.

This would be a bit more of a complex plot than the simple nobody trainer story that rises up from the bootstrap.

I vote for Female MC. Regardless of what wins.

Yes, Team Rocket and the whole global teams will have their place with expanded and more realistic, brutal, fanatic based areas ... you're basically looking at mob syndicates, eco-terrorists, totalitarian regime governmental hostile takeover groups, and a ton of others ... pokemon as a realistic world is extremely dangerous ... we're talking about dragon type creatures with aggressive personalities that will jump out and attack you for walking around in the wild =P We call it dogfighting in our world, but in theirs, it's the only way they've learned to survive xD ... taking out our modern safe and civilized world that developed that way through countless thousands of years of war and hundreds of thousands of years of social evolution makes for an interesting theme. From the anime and games ... it looks like pokemon far outnumber the human race and they've centralized in specific locations to maximize safety from the wild threats of pokemon over many generations. There are some interesting bits of lore, too ... I mean, the creation mythos has a pokemon as god that isn't too fond of humans xD

As far as Pokemon goes, I've had two ideas for Pokemon stories that I would have liked to have seen happen for quite a while now. The first idea was to actually give Jesse and James brains. To do a story from the team rocket point of view and have them actually not be complete fuck-ups. Of course they would probably have to lose in the end, but it might be interesting to see where they came from and how they got to the point where they became complete fuck ups. The other story idea was to flip Pokemon on its head. To tell a story on a world of Pokemon where there are very few trainers and way too many Pokemon and the Pokemon have to battle to try to get the best trainers. Oh, and I chose option five it just sounded the most interesting.
