Finding ways to solve physical pain

Sorry for the hiatus of updates!

The chaos strikes in my country and it requires more attention to make clear what's actually happening both in Taiwan and globally. The more I know the more I am not sure if I can still safely sit here updating Patreon to the next year. *sigh*

Well, since it's a Patreon update I'll just let those concerns pass by and focus on talking about drawing. I'm sorry to say that I'm hitting a wall again...and the culprit is wrist & shoulder pain.

Those physical pain usually come after days of intensively drawing. After searching for suggestions I'm thinking to quit using Cintiq, and instead, I should practice on a normal tablet or maybe going back to paper & pencils. The tablet+normal monitor choice is preferred for now, and it might take some weeks or months for me to retrieve the muscle memory. If I come up with some interesting drawings, I'll post them here.

So far I'm mostly dismayed by how much I have forgotten to draw without a Cintiq ;_; Note the July billing cycle will be paused unless I miraculously fulfill the monthly reward goal (which is very unlikely).

Again, thank you all for your support during such a trying time!

Thanks for your kind words! For what actually happing currently I might just be whining about nothing haha. Things are changing drastically around the world within a year and it's just this time the ground zero is a bit too close to us. :/ Speaking about hand drawn stuff, I can list some of them here: [ pencil drawing + digital paint ] https://society6.com/product/lucifer-htz_print?sku=s6-2342357p4a1v45 https://society6.com/product/master-assassin-chl_print?sku=s6-2341373p4a1v45 [ hand drawn linework ] https://society6.com/product/cursed-white_print?sku=s6-2341035p4a1v45

In a way, it's a good thing that some topics are resurfacing again recently and more people are aware of the risk of pursuing profit/progress by supporting a tyranny (=our bully neighbor *wink*). Thanks for your suggestions! I'll try all of them one by one. I recently am learning to see the drawing experience as something more relaxing rather than a tool for medal grinding. If an approach is more enjoyable, then I might have done something right.

Oh thank you for reassuring! I feel I never really learn how to intuitively draw digitally. There's gonna be a lot to learn. The Cintiq did change my drawing experience for the first few years but the price of physical issues is probably not worth it. :/ My physical comics are all sold out currently *ahem* Since they are old works I don't plan to print them again. Sorry about the inconvenience xo

Yeah I'm doing more stretches now~ I'm quite safe for now! Sorry that I just found my text seems a bit exaggerated *ahem*

Hey Rae, i hope you are safe and I'm so sorry for the situation in your country. About the drawing issues, i agree with everyone else here who has already given you very good advice, take breaks and stretch your arms, if you don't already, starting to workout regularly can really improve your posture and pain after long drawing sessions! I won't lie though, I'd love to see hand drawn stuff from you, I'm not sure if I've ever even seen it before, that would be a treat!

Huh I always keep up with world news daily and most major news outlets did not cover Taiwanese issues lately. I did a search and I can see why you are worried. Life is very unpredictable:( In the mean time, please take care of yourself and take frequent breaks from long drawing sessions. It might also be a grip thing as it can be difficult to notice your grip is no longer relaxed after drawing for too long. Changing your drawing routine i.e. switching to different media is a good idea too as it sounds like you are dealing with repetitive injury. I hope you find a better drawing solution eventually!

I know what you mean! I have XP Pen monitor but I returned back to my very old and cheap Huion tablet. It is just better to draw with that, it doesn't hurt so much. Also, I wanted to ask if your comic store is open or have you sold all the DMC comics? I wanted to buy something but I only found your Society6 store. Thank you! Please take care of yourself!

MOAR STRETCHES. MOAR WATER. I hope you're staying safe over there. D:

Oh I will and many thanks! <3 Still I hope I can find a workflow that generates fewer problems to begin with.

Ome Rae plz take care of yourself!!! Health first!! I totally get the wrist and shoulder pains tho, use ice and stretches to help it recovery. It helps!
