Process of an OC sketch

After the previous post, I was thinking about improving the very beginning step of doing an illustration -- sketching. Last week I did 2 versions of my old OC but found both of them lack the appeal compared to the 2012 version.

There's a long story about why I want to change the way I draw. Long story short, is mostly about wanting to draw sketches faster and closer to the result of inking. But it seems the method of drawing for 'comics', and drawing for 'illustration' are very different. Back in 2012, I can only draw for illustrations, it's slow and inefficient, easily being too focused to details and forget about the perspective, anatomy and proportions...but it somehow yields a result that is still interesting enough to look at.

I'm still thinking about how to find the balance of doing a better sketch. And maybe I should start sketching something simpler...

Ah sorry for the late reply! And thank you a lot for the advice! Your feedback really motivates me of keeping going and adjusting my approach. I'll see how to detailed the new version sketch.

Thank you 😘

The new version definitely has a more fluid and interesting pose. The older version is full of details (which gives the viewer things to look at). I am guessing choosing a focal point in the pic and detailing that area more (while glossing over the other parts with broader strokes) would save some time while giving viewers something interesting to pay attention to? It's just my 2 cents; I respect any decision you make in your work^^

I wished you luck! 🤗
