Hey everyone! I'm back to work now. Melli and I took a vacation for a few days, vising some redneck Army buddies up in the Arkansas mountains. Some of the guys we went camping with were dudes I hadn't seen in over a decade, not since we served together.
The trip was a lot of fun, with the only exception being when we first got there and became lost AF in the middle of nowhere, driving back country roads at night. I was low key starting to worry that I might disturb someone up in the Ozarks with a still.
This is a thing. I'm not embellishing.
We also got to really put my truck through its paces. I don't think there is a much more legit stamp of reliability on a new vehicle than driving across a few states, offroading all over the mountains, then driving back home.
Melli is still a little in shock about not being able to take a shower for a few days! It's kind of funny that the lack of shower was really the only thing she was stressed about, not the drastic change of scenery nor culture.
This picture was taken just before we got to the top of a hike and explored a cave, heading about a hundred yards directly into the mountain to a relatively large underground area with a waterfall. The cave got really small in places so I had to sort of crawl around in the stream. Some of the areas you had to squeeze in to get through were sharp and kind of freaky, with the stone only a few inches from your face, even as you were hunched over to avoid smashing your head on the rock. Most of the group had head lamps. Meanwhile, Melli didn't have a headlamp, and was super surprised by the cave, but still just wandered around like it was an every weekend thing for her.
Now my Army buddies that I was visiting with know that Melli is tougher than I am--such is life.
I got lots of story ideas by being up in the mountains, and I love deep-diving other cultures. I always tend to wonder what kind of story would be most fun with characters from different cultures or subculture. As a writer now, I always love exploring and seeing new things, meeting new people, because I know it's one way I can elevate my art.
Anyway, now that I'm back in the saddle, I'll be guiding home the anthology release on the 14th and hitting Asgard Awakening 2 hard! We should have new Asgard Awakening and First Song chapters up on Patreon within a week!
