Question and answer
Added 2018-07-08 17:01:41 +0000 UTCHi all!
It's been a few days since I've posted a new chapter and I'm behind. The Nora chapter I'm working on is one of the most important in the entire book and it's been taking me a while.
Because of that, I thought I'd offer everyone the opportunity to ask me a question. :) I appreciate you guys like crazy, and I'm kind of ashamed I haven't done this before.
So if you have a non-spoilers (for obvious reasons) and non controversial (don't ask me shit about abortion, etc) question, feel free to ask below.
:)
If the questions aren't in astoundingly terrible taste, I will answer all of them.

Count me an interested reader for the workshop series. And Delvers. But yeah, sleep is amazing.

2018-07-15 01:21:15 +0000 UTCYes. I just haven't heard much about it so I've been prioritizing differently. My plan is to probably write 30 or 40 entries and put it all together into a book...maybe. One day. I wish I didn't need to sleep

2018-07-15 00:47:56 +0000 UTCWill there be any more posts in the Author Workshop series? I was really looking forward to the nitty-gritty -- where to publish, how to advertise, what worked for you, what didn't.

2018-07-15 00:44:50 +0000 UTCThe cover is done and the first chapter is written--I just need more time :/

2018-07-13 16:58:37 +0000 UTCWelp, personally SOO is my favorite of your series' so hopefully it's sooner rather than later
Ryanne Ward
2018-07-13 15:50:44 +0000 UTCProbably some time next year. It's hard to justify the time to write SOO right now since it was kind of written on a lark, and it never did super well. I'm also going a different direction with audio so that would be another problem

2018-07-11 22:39:21 +0000 UTCGood question. He gets a small, passive amount from the parent schools, but the hybrid school gets much, much greater increase with a direct enhancement, like Henry did for Darkness (iirc).

2018-07-10 21:40:03 +0000 UTCSince Jason has psionics now, would that count like a whole separare magic school in that he would need to get psionics control ranks too or it would level base on its 2 combined schools?

2018-07-10 21:05:51 +0000 UTCI'll probably be at DragonCon next year, and I will more than likely do at least one other Con. Favorite color varies. I like Red, Silver, and Black, or combos of all three. I don't personally wear socks with sandals, but I think people can wear a lot worse. I've been to Walmart at 2-4am all over the US, so my tolerance of wackiness is pretty high. Considering I sometimes dress like a wizard with a short sword while going to write in public, I can't judge folks with crocs or sandals/socks without being a huge hypocrite. :P

2018-07-10 00:38:15 +0000 UTCWhere would be a good place to come see you in person sometime, do you have a schedule of events or book readings up somewhere? Please don't say Facespace cause I refuse to let those fuckers ruin another of my devices with their 2 peso Tijuana prostitute level computer infections. Also, some stalker questions; what is your favorite color and are socks and sandals OK in public?
Robert Brandt
2018-07-09 21:27:40 +0000 UTCSince a 1911 is over 100 year old technology and kind of a classic, it should stay its classic caliber--45. I don't really eat bacon. 10 liters Not gonna happen
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 12:44:01 +0000 UTCIt kind of depends on the story. If the books are really long, or there's been a long break between books, I'm more likely to reread older ones... But honestly, I tend to eventually reread books I really love anyway. I've read The Wheel of Time and Zelazny's Amber series several times now.
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 12:42:36 +0000 UTCHopefully Brandon Sanderson. :P I'd better work hard to reach more people so that would be a possibility, eh?

2018-07-09 12:40:23 +0000 UTCWhen a new chapter comes out in one of your favorite series, do you reread the entire story leading up or just go on to the next book?

2018-07-09 07:32:07 +0000 UTCDuanna orbs are a bit more interesting for me to write, not least of which because all the powers have multiple magics rolled into one. I think it would be easier to min-max with a Duanna orb, tbh.
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 05:22:21 +0000 UTCThere were honestly a lot of reasons. A really common trope is fantasy is the plucky heroes get one over/trick some ancient being or god. This is kind of dumb. A 5 year old really can't trick me. The idea that some 20 year old hero could trick a 5000 year old dragon is kind of dumb. I wanted to turn that trope sideways and show two /smart/ characters try to trick a powerful being, and learn how bad they messed up in kind of a funny way. :P

Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 02:21:28 +0000 UTCThat's a really good question. As a writer, probably Simon R Green's Blue Moon series. I really think I could fairly easily sink into that world. As a fan, the Talion book/series by Mike Stackpole. Talion: Revenant is still one of my favorite fantasy books to this day.
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 02:20:59 +0000 UTCSome of it will depend on time. If I revisit the series in the distant future, this is probably how I'd do it. The first character who comes to mind is probably George. That man lived a very full life, much more than Mareen has ever known or has suspected.
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 02:14:19 +0000 UTCCoke or Big Red depending on mood (sadly, I don't drink soda anymore, though). Fun-time beverages are like... Sweet wine Rum Kamikaze Mojito

2018-07-09 02:12:44 +0000 UTCThis is more than three questions but I'll allow it. :P I haven't been able to read anything for a while. I'm probably most looking forward to getting caught up on William Arand, Dakota Krout, Travis Bagwell, and Luke C-Alphabet. There are a few non-gamelit portal fantasy books in my to-read pile that I'm jonesing to read too. I don't have characters I'm closest do, but I do have characters that are more fun to write. If I were transported to Ludus, I think I would have immediately used my Dolos orb (if I got one). Other than that, how I reacted would depend on my situation and where I found myself in the world. In Henry and Jason's situation, I probably would have taken my orb and tried to find shelter, like maybe high up in a tree.
Blaise Corvin
2018-07-09 02:11:25 +0000 UTCBecause I honestly think so. I try to be brutally honest with myself. It took me a lot of time and a lot of practice to get to where I'm at. Granted, I never would have gotten here without some talent and some luck, but the way some writers can write for the first time and make it big with no promotion is something I would never be able to do. This doesn't make me any less of an artist, it just means I will always need to work harder to attain their level. I am logical enough to wonder if this could be my form of impostor syndrome since I don't usually doubt my work, but I'm fairly confident in saying that my view of the world is probably accurate. In my opinion, people get too hung up on talent. It's a really dicey subject in author circles. People with no talent don't want to admit it, and authors with talent coming out of their ears would rather pretend they earned everything through hard work. I don't feel bad that I have less talent than others, because I believe I still write a better story. For me personally, it just drives me harder to work on my craft so I can be the kind of author I aspire to be before death.

2018-07-08 23:53:57 +0000 UTCAre there any characters in delver's that you wish you had the ability to give more backstory of and will we get any .5s? 2018-07-08 22:21:20 +0000 UTCWhat upcoming books are you looking forward to reading? Is there a particular character you is closest to how you would like to react to finding yourself on ludus and if there is a difference how you think you would actually react (i think i would be a gibbering mess)?

2018-07-08 17:59:07 +0000 UTCWhy do you repeatedly insist that you're not really a good writer in relationship to other writers? I've seen a few of your interviews and in every one I can recall, you make this claim. Who sets the bar that makes you repeatedly claim to not be a good writer? In your opinion, who are the writers that make you denigrate your own ability?

2018-07-08 17:32:42 +0000 UTCMy favorite work is probably The Great Hunt or The Dragon Reborn. Both of those books are utterly amazing, in both pacing and content. My favorite character is Mat, hands down. I really appreciate that Sanderson finished the Wheel of Time series and I think he did a great job, but he never truly managed to nail Mat's voice. I think the character is just too fundamentally dissimilar from Sandreson's style. A wise-cracking womanizer is simply not the type of character Sanderson does well in my opinion. Where Sanderson really shines is world building and more serious characters, hence why Words of Radiance is so damn good. If you think about it, Words of Radiance has very little comic relief--almost none. It's like Dune in that way.

2018-07-08 17:30:38 +0000 UTCMan, you’ve truly hobbled me , terribly bad taste is one of my strengths. However, having less than a week on Pateron, I really don’t want to read incomplete books, I do have questions about Nora’ s combat gear. First , does she find a kill-range that exceeds the banner’s return function? 2. Have you found an artist who can capture Nora’s facial/frontal appearance, or are we stuck looking at her backside? 3. I don’t recall her having a sword of any quality. Just a spear and a dagger, while she’s badass with both, will the beloved Nora ever get at leaset a blessedsreel sweotd? My sincere apologies for any questions previously answered.
