Behind The Scenes

Not really, but kinda also yes XD

A little later than I'd originally planned, here's that upload of sketches I promissed earlier.

First we have some stuff that indirectly relates to the comic poll*. While not a primary focus by any means, a si'itian (fighter)pilot suit was something that was going to show up somewhere in the story just by the nature of having events happen around it, so last sunday doodle session I sat down and put to paper what I had in mind. I have a huge gallery of character and amor designs to draw inspiration from, but aside from including greaves and vambraces as an idea from one example, the suit is original in design - at least as original as you can get in today's world. Grey bodysuit isn't exactly uncommon atire for any kind of sci-fi setting XD

Second, I finally managed to nail down a definitive design for the si'itian multi-purpose attack craft named "shard" which serves a large variety of roles within combat doctrine. I'd had this general idea for quite a while now, but some of the details eluded me for the longest time. You can see in the previous image a rough idea of what I was always going for, but things like not integrating the nacelles with the main body directly and leaving that negative space between the rear control surfaces only came together last week and I'm really happy with the look now. Again, these will only feature for ... maybe a page worth of frames, if that, but it was in large parts the vote for Royal Escort that reinspired me to go explore the shapes and designs of my sci-fi universe again :3

Last doodle from that night, we have a revisitation of that bounty hunter team I'd greyscaled once before >>> https://www.patreon.com/posts/large-scale-of-3-64995702
They wont feature in the RE story, but while I was doodling shapes, it occured to me that I'd never concepted a ship for them to get around in and I seemed to be in a good place inspiration wise. I'm not 100% with the design, but I wanna say it's maybe 95% there. A few minor tweaks and some scaling issues, though that might just be because we have a lot of perspective going on here. Friend I showed this to also loved the general feel of the image, which I'm willing to subscribe to. Always love the feel of a busy spaceport.

Aside from those doodles, I sat down the other day while unable to sleep and smashed out some more vixen related stuff. You'll remember I did one of these style sheets for Nyx earlier this year, and I felt it was time to give Megaera her own, seeing as she's going to be the majority focus of what I'm working on (for now anyway). I'm still not going to talk too much about specifics, but I've seen theories and ideas mentioned that aren't far from the truth, and especially those of you who looked into the names a little more probably have a good idea of what's going on.

Having said that, relaying some of the more inter-character lore is something I feel I can do (and am bursting with anyway). Of the lot of them, Meg is certainly the most brash and self-assured. Nyx often describes her as most like herself when she was younger. Whether this is down to them resembling eachother physically or due to some other factor is up to anyone's guess though. Surprisingly powerful for a fox, Meg has a little more bulk on her frame than you would normally expect, and she has a bit of a sibling rivalry going with Tissy to that effect.

And to round off the post, I couldn't help myself and doodled Meg being an utter fox. This is not to say it's out of her character to be physical, quite the opposite actually. You just probably wouldn't guess it at first. She knows her effect on others and she's more than willing to exploit it, both professionally and personally. As a partner she's just as happy to take charge as she is with being taken charge of, which relates to her self-confident personality and attitude.

At one point I had considered Meg to be in your classic husband, house, two kids relationship, but it ended up being too contrary to her character, at least for now. Who knows what she might turn out to be eventually. For now she's just happy to get to experience several different shapes and sizes :b

Right, so this month has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. The kitchen was to be done by now, but we ran into several issues along the way, which delayed us to the point where we're hoping to be done by the end of this next weekend.

Due to this I've also been too drained on a daily basis to do much of anything after hauling trash, assembling cupboards and shifting heavy appliances around to really focus on the projects that were supposed to start rolling this month. I'm not at a complete loss though. After having a talk with my buddy insomniac, I've collected together some 120 odd sketches, both old and new, to have material to offer up for voting in the future polls. I'll explain the exact structure of the sketch polls in a dedicated post once real life has calmed down.

*concerning the comic polls; given that half the month is over already, I'm unlikely to make any kind of satisfactory advances on Royal Escort in the little time that remains between that and having to produce bill-paying work. That is not to say I wont get to produce anything relating to it, I just don't feel it'll be a months worth of effort put in, so I'm going to postpone the comic focus poll for another month so there's actually something to show progress on, before we potentially switch gears.

Anyway, that concludes today's upload cycle. Wish me luck on the kitchen thing, for all our sakes, and maybe I'll actually be able to show some nice finished stuff again soon :3

That makes sense, yeah :)

Thank you ^^ I find a lot of designs for "crew" type roles tends to be simpler, which is just as well, because you're trying to fit someone into something after all, so overdesigning it might end up being detrimental to what it's supposed to do X3 You know me though. I like my simplistic and plain designs over "fancy" styles.

It's a shame that there's very little modern sci-fi that focuses any amount at all on spaceships. The closest thing we get is the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and even there, the ships are ... somewhat uninspired, I feel. Characterless. I don't see why Si'itians wouldn't trade materials and resources. They're somewhat very guarded about technology though X3

Oooh, love the Shard. Very cool ship! The pilot suit looks good too. Maybe a bit plain... but those aren't supposed to look fancy :) Sorry to hear that about the kitchen. I'd offer to help but... well, you know :(

I always love "Behind the scenes" pictures like these. And there is something you mention here that i really agree with, the whole "love the feel of a busy spaceport". A place where travel and trade takes place in large scale. There is something in me that smiles when i try to imagine one of them large freigthers coming down to dock. To imagine what amount of cargo they must be carrying. In my own fantazy i imagine Pantherans trade quite a bit with Si'itian, be it technology, raw materials or resources.
