New build: Optimization update!

Thank you for reporting this! But that's weird, I can't seem to reproduce it... Does it crash as soon as you pause, every time? Is it during the 1st or 2nd phase? Are you on Windows? And, just to make sure, do you have the most recent version of the game?

NoseBecc

I've got another Angel bug that seems to occur simply if the game is paused during the fight. This is the error message I got: ___________________________________________ ############################################################################################ ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event2 for object obj_BGMManager: Unable to find instance for object index 1413 at gml_Object_obj_BGMManager_Step_2 ############################################################################################ gml_Object_obj_BGMManager_Step_2 (line -1)

It's the same as for the Windows version! Hold left shft + Enter + F2 to toggle debug mode on and off ^^ Here is a list of debug instructions: https://www.patreon.com/posts/119207938

How do you enable cheats on the Linux version?

Mark G

Thanks a lot, I'll look into it asap!

Okay encounterd another bug during the angel encounter was that taken care of.When yuu is saved from the angel the gamemaker crashes at some point during corridor run.Where vestina slung yuu over the shoulder. Will get a screen shot and DM it to you. Basically it happens if you die.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it ^^ Just to make sure, when did you download the demo? I've been fixing some of these bugs over the week, that first one should be no more in the latest build! You could try downloading the Linux version again. Still just to be safe, which character is it that is crashing the game when talked to? Feel free to post a screenshot if you prefer ^^ That small icon indicates an autosave just happened! I'll introduce it properly in the future As for that cursor bug I actually did mention it in the post, let me copy paste that... "If you notice a delay when moving the cursor, try increasing your monitor's refresh rate (or decreasing it, this has also worked in one case for some reason...!). This is a fun quirk of GM2, currently doing my best to fix this...! Edit: This is a known GM issue, sadly the best known fixes currently are either what I said above, or pressing F1 which will unlock the mouse from the game window." I'm especially annoyed at this one myself given there isn't much I can do right now... Though it is good to know it can also trigger on Linux, thank you for telling me...! I hope these temporary cursor fixes work for you!

Getting an ERROR when talking to Sevii. ERROR in action number 1 of Step Event0 for object obj_DialogueManagerExploration: DoAdd :2: Malformed variable at gml_Object_obj_DialogueManagerExloration_Step_0. Just started playing. This game is such a vibe. Love the music and the art style. The opening areas are great. I know it's been in all the demos but there is so much hidden it a blast. It's a great game with some great tits. :D Did have one question. I've been noticing a small icon pop on the top right of the screen. Maybe I didn't read something but I was wondering what that was. Edit: I am having another bug. It wasn't really causing to much of an issue but I'm noticing it in the mini games and it is somewhat annoying. It seems to be something with the mouse calibration. When I switch screens (Go to the backpack or another UI screen.) My mouse will move really choppy then slow then it will be fine again. It doesn't seem like it's game lag or anything like that but I think it's something with the mouse re-calibrating on each screen. Idk if you can add an option to make that manual (So you click a button to calibrate an it doesn't do it other wise) or if you know why that would be happening. I am on Linux using Wayland and KDE plasma so not sure if that would be causing it. But it's very odd.

If you have the version from the 3rd edit for Windows, you're good! The 4th edit was only for bringing the Linux version up to speed ^^

NoseBecc

is the latest update only for linux with no changes for windows from the one before? i still got the version from the 3rd edit and wanna confirm if it is the same for windows or should i update?

First of all thank you very much! ^^ I've been told similar things by others. I'm not only planning to rethink the overall balance in the next big update, but I've also been thinking about adding a different difficulty setting specifically for Shapes! Additionally, I'd like t make it so swapping characters damages all present shapes. I can share a few tricks though: - Each enemy can only summon a set amount of shapes at once (with a few exceptions, when Shapes are summoned through spells like with Kitsune's Overcurse). If you can determine which shape isn't an active threat while you're busy with the grid, leaving these alive will essentially make it safer to focus on the grid! - Choosing your battles is ok. You can run away from a battle by going in the opposite direction you came from while exploring! It's possible to avoid battle by estimating in how many steps the next one will appear and walking backwards at the right time. Coupled with toggling Sneak mode (which lowers the encounter rate) on/off at the right time, you can avoid a lot of fights you don't like until you're higher level! - Have you tried other characters than Vuu? Rose's Heartpower is short range, but very good for quickly dispatching Shapes. T's charged Heartpower results in a big AOE, and her unique skill can damage shapes too - Don't hesitate to swap characters mid fight, it's essentially a small free heal! You get one extra swap every time you refill the grid - The Blob heart relic is very helpful against Shapes. You can find it in the Biscotti tunnels, inside the yellow mushroom house. - I recommend always having a Terra's incense in your inventory to escape if needed! You can buy them at the Biscotti general store. - If you need it, don't hesitate to use the difficulty setting or the walkthrough: https://www.patreon.com/posts/119207938 That's all I got! The tunnels are a definitely a jump in difficulty currently, sorry about that...!

im new to the game, i discovered it yesterday, and it is one of the best games ive found in my venerable career (joking) in playing pervert games. up to a certain point. i am now at a point where random encounters are so frequent, so lengthy, and so overwhelmingly hard to process visually that i am *dreading* them. every time i trigger a random encounter in this area i hope its a Zombie and not an Imp, because if its an Imp, i better pray it isnt in the way of getting out. if it is... i guess its a game over for me. if there was a way to turn down, slow down, or otherwise weaken the Shapes during encounters without it costing me an arm and a leg or a spell slot, this game would legitimately be perfect to me. unless im missing something, im currently not really seeing the vision in having me aggressive micromanage the combine-colours gameplay, try and squash the hazards in the grid itself, AND manage the Shapes, all while trying not to die and trying to be optimal.

You're welcome! ^^

NoseBecc

Thanks for the Linux version btw. Was fully expecting to have to use Proton or Wine for this one.

Ran

Thank you! I added it as a Known issue as well ^^

NoseBecc

It's mainly thanks to Mason! I've wanted to do this for a while but had some difficulties with it. You're very welcome ^^

NoseBecc

I posted this in the Discord chat, but I'll leave it here so others are warned: When you alt tab and come back, there is a 0.5 second freeze. Sometimes the "LOADING!" screen will pop up during this freeze and never go away, hardlocking the game. Avoid alt tabbing whenever possible for now.

WyattMeyer

Thanks for the Linux version Nose, not very fun running through Proton sometimes, also very based to not use flatpak (don't) and going for the far better appimage launcher much appreciated!

Archduke Doggo

Shoot! Thank you! Looking at the code again, I'm not sure how it even worked in the past...! I'll have the fix uploaded in just a bit ^^

NoseBecc

Woo new update! Alas, I can already report a bug: On a new File - The game crashes during the dialogue with the lady on the distant island in sablee. EDIT: Seems to be more common. The same thing happens when talking to the two ladies one area to the east of the confetti game. The error code reads: ERROR in action number 1 of Other Event: User Defined 2 for object obj_DialogueManagerExploration: DoAdd :2: Malformed variable at gml_Object_obj_DialogueManagerExploration_Other_12 ############################################################################################ gml_Object_obj_DialogueManagerExploration_Other_12 (line -1) gml_Object_obj_DialogueBox_Step_0 (line -1)
