Added 2025-01-14 22:12:01 +0000 UTCEvery once in a while I gravitate back toward macropods for some reason that probably has to do with their big ears, big feet, and meaty tails. This time I can sort of pin Lizet’s Audrey as the specific influence to get me spending some time with kangaroos proper, rather than the sort I’ve drawn in the past (like this and this). Macropods exist on a kind of spectrum (how else do you explain the existence of a fucking wallaroo) and the more-solidly-kangaroo-type ones have their own vibe going that’s a little more “strong and elegant” than “cutesy”. Anyway, when I start working on a species I’m not fully familiar with, I produce a mess of sketches feeling out the essence of it. In the past I’ve fallen into the trap of drawing all species as some variation on a prototypical (in my case, fox) theme, so this is a process of figuring out what “roo-ness” means to me, and the result here is this lady nonchalantly showing it all off.
And in the most boring way possible. So, well, I wanted to share her as something slightly more esthetically interesting than “behold -- a kangaroo”. Hijacking this figure study for a basic ref sheet not only gave me the opportunity to indulge in a bit of artistic typography, I also get to imprint on it my own silly ethos for the role of ref sheets in general. Very conveniently for the setting, Kimber enjoys nude beaches, which is also sort of on-theme for most of my recurring characters anyway. Which she will not be, I’m afraid! There’s too many characters already nipping at my heels for attention, and now whining about how they don’t have ref sheets of their own. [insert adoptable ad here]

Cool addition to your cast of characters. I like her chill attitude and way about here. She looks really neat. Good job on the ref sheet too. This feels so fresh and minimalist. Kind of adds to her personality on it's own. Accessories, and all as well. Good character build. I also agree, interview podcasts are boring. lol.
