Scribbles (deer, fox, and noodles)
Added 2025-01-09 22:05:01 +0000 UTCEven though I do the bulk of my sketching digitally, I also take a physical sketchbook pretty much everywhere I go. Including coffee shops.
I used to do all my work in paper sketchbooks, whatever was offered at the university book store in a spiral-bound, 8.5x11" format. Since I started doing most of my work digitally, traditional sketchbooks have kind of taken a backseat. But they still get used. These days I prefer smaller format (let's say "travel-sized") sketchbooks, and my current go-to is a regular-ass Bic pen.
I hope your year is off to a solid start. And if one of your resolutions is drawing more (or even learning to draw), consider this my encouragement to KEEP AT IT. There really isn't any substitute for putting pen to paper -- or whatever your medium of choice happens to be.

Thank you. That's fantastic to hear that you too ran across their work way back when. I didn't start out planning to preserve their work for the future, it just kinda happened. Glad though I've been able to share it and ensure I'm not the only one with it. It indeed was lucky for me to run across their sketchbooks.

Like a nutrient deficiency or something. The happy side effect is that it's pretty easy to share when hanging out in person.

I had to look up Pilot's art to remember them, and sure enough I saw their work in my early explorations of the fandom. They did a commission of a feline character (Myrla) who herself I don't suspect has much of a presence on the modern internet. You've done yeoman's work preserving all that art.

2025-01-13 21:59:43 +0000 UTCBeautiful work. This reminds me so much of an artist I used to watch 25 years ago, Pilot. They disappeared around the year 2000 without a trace. Around 15 years later, someone found a huge collection of their sketchpads in an abandoned storage unit. I purchased them from the (non furry) seller. The sketchbooks were for sure Pilot's, as it contained the paper originals of some of their artwork that had been digitally colored and put online back in the day. The vast majority of their work is no longer online. I saved all their work I found way back then because it was the dialup days and that's what you did. (My PC had a 600Mb hard drive then.) I've ran across several people over the years who thought Pilot's work had been lost to time, but I was thankfully able to share my collection with them. Thanks for sharing this with us and thanks for reminding me of my days lurking in the furry fandom all those years ago.

The traditional sketchbook looks awesome and I love all the little designs, especially the running figure on the left page and there’s so many happy otters!

There's something that feels different about physically drawing on paper, and it's certainly a much better way to maintain skills. Happy New Year to you too!
