IMPORTANT PATREON UPDATE(please read!!)

Hey y'all, so this morning patreon sent an email out to all creators basically telling them "Ummm, hey guys, so Apple/ios is telling us that we need to make things harder for y'all and that they want moneyyyyy!!!!! If we don't bow to the apple overlords our app gets delisted tee hee"

So starting in November 2024, if you are subbed through the ios app store, you will be charged an extra 30%, I do not receive any of this, all of it just goes to apple. This does not change anything if you are not subbed through ios, so google play and normal web payments are NOT affected by this. So if you are subbed through the App store on ios, I would highly recommend cancelling and resubbing through the web or other means.

Now another change that does affect EVERYONE here. Because Patreon is bending over backwards for the above, they also are forcing every creator to adopt the "Subscriptions are billed when the sub was first bought, no longer at the start of the month"

Patreon always gave us the option to change the billing model, I never made the transition to this as I felt it was easier for me, and easier for people to sub knowing the exact date stuff would hit. Double charging was always an issue but I thought it just made more sense that way. Well now, I don't get the choice and if I don't make the transition by november 2024, Im just unable to take any new subs from ios. Now if that was all it was I wouldn't really mind as I wouldn't want people subbing from ios anyway with the extra charges. HOWEVER, by November 2025 all patreon creators will be forced into the new billing method no matter what. so that's great.

So because I don't really have an option here I want to ask y'all what I should do here. My current thought process is see if the inevitable backlash lets patreon push back at all before November, and if nothing changes the New sub model will start in November. Do y'all feel that sounds reasonable? The one thing I don't know is if people who have been subbed for years now, if they get charged on the 1st once I implement or if they need to remember what date they subbed years ago, I'll try and figure that out in the meantime.

(EDIT) Okay so upon reviewing the monthly billing vs subscription billing on their site, this change does not affect any current patrons only future ones, all current patrons before the change take affect will still be billed on the 1st of every month as usual. So it technically doesn't change anything for everyone reading this currently but still unsure if I should make the change now or just see what happens.
