If you want to experience Greed Island again, I recommend checking out the manga version this time. (vol. 13-18)

Hard to watch every single time it feels like I lose something inside of me ;(

I love how Killua is able to be lighthearted about the apology, really shows you that he grew up past the days he was clinging to that relationship as the only resort to find meaning in his life. Now that he found purpose to his life, he is larger than life! On the other hand, Gon's burden was lifted because Kite is alive. I know many may not like that approach, but I think Togashi looked at the Gon he knows very well, the Gon he wrote in episode 131, and thought "No way man, no way this Gon just continues on living knowing Kite is dead", sometimes we would love to get a "the hero accepted the consequences, learned his lesson and moved on" but here this is just simply out of character, the stubborn Gon will blame himself to the day he dies, no ifs or buts (even if Ging tried to convince him otherwise). Togashi decided that if you guys want to see a the happy version of Gon right at the end of the anime, the minimum requirement is for Kite to be alive.

The scene with Koala really stood out for me. His self-reflection on his life and the idea of reincarnation as a chance for self-improvement, redemption and making a difference gives CA arc even more meaning. Not sure if it'd help you looking at Kite being alive more favourably. I don't think him being alive cheapens Gon's drama, for me it only underlines the selfishness and self-destructive nature of Gon's path for revenge. But I agree it wasn't that necessary to bring him back to the story. And it's not like he did something that required redemption in his second chance at life. But I guess his soul wasn't ready to move on, he still has so much to give people around him, and he had tools for that second chance being a possibility.

I don't even know what to say I just wanna cry...that final shot of Gon parting ways with Killua...so emotional. Their expressions say it all. Then they hit me with REASON the fun times spent in Greed Island such an underrated arc. I'm just speechless

The one hxh episode I cried the most on my first watchthrough. The sadness in their goodbye and farewell is unrivaled. So many things were said throughout the show that add certain elements to this episode and make this last sequence even more melancholic than it already is. Back in episode 75 Bisky asked "what's the first thing you'll do when meeting ging?" Gon answered "introduce him to killua, of course! he's my best friend in the world". And it was the first thing he wanted to do and he couldn't. Realizing that made me so incredibly sad. To me this goodbye is the perfect goodbye for one of the best relationships in anime and prob my fav. As you said so many things were left unsaid. To me it always feels like they are still friends and nothing is going to change that but with everything that happened in the ca arc their relationship changed in a way it will never be able to go back as it was before. So many friendships and relationships in rl work in the same way. And that’s whats so good about it

The approach Togashi takes to the single most pivotal relationship of this anime is so interesting to me. Just like he did with the ending to the Hunter Exam, Yorknew and Meruem's death, he doesn't give us the scenes you'd get in other shows where a heated comfrontation followed by a tearful reaffirmation of their friendship would be the usual route. Instead he once again grounds this fantastical story in reality by making the relationships feel so real. Yes Gon apologised and yes Killua has forgiven him, but it's quite clear there's a scar there from Gon's actions that isn't going to heal anytime soon. The fact that Togashi makes Killua not saying "Thank you" to friends a major part of his arc in Chimera Ant, and then ends their onscreen goodbyes with "thank you" speaks volumes This is truly my favourite relationship in one of my all time favourite shows, and while I understand if some people don't like the approach he took here, I absolutely adore it. Can't quite believe we're already at the end

I'm not sure if your subs have the lyrics for the op/ed but if not, the lyrics for the ED are quite poignant: I'm here, the closest I can be, by your side / and that's just fine for now / One day you'll tell me gently / Tell me the rest of your dreams / Wah-hoo-hoo part / Without any clear path ahead / what kind world is awaiting us? / Voiceless as we are / unable to reach anything, are we going to dissapear? / Don't forget! The memories of yesterday. / Don't erase! The regrets of today. Throw them away, and reach out daringly to tomorrow / Laugh at your wounds, bathed in the morning light, / this is not the end of your journey! / Chorus: Despite knowing the headwinds ahead / you have no reason to stop going forward. / Therefore my friend, / just living for the sake of growing old / it's a bit early, don't you think? / The things you've grown attached to, / the things you've embraced / let go of them and start anew. / The recipe for a long full life, / I feel a reason to discard that recipe / we'll do things our own way!

Togashi really just self-inserted as a Koala lol

I love the theme that plays when they first see the world tree. Those bagpipes hit so good lol. It captures that raw feeling of discovery and adventure so well.

The discussion is going to be insane man!!!! What a journey :( That Greed Island ending theme never fails to give me goosebumps.

Kite

wow this one really got to my emotions perhaps even more than the first time. bittersweet is the right word for sure.

That koala section is really thought provoking, you can feel the weight behind the ideas he's getting at. Also the farewell scene is so heartbreaking even after all those years I still tear up. Their relationship is special, it is the core of the anime I'd say.

I know the reaction to Koala is elite
