The question then becomes...worse for whom? Like...in a purely utilitarian, numbers-only sense, yes. More people die immediately with Eren's plan. If we define our ethics to be about the preservation of the most amount of people with no thought to preserving any other moral standard or protecting any minority population, that makes sense. However, I could say that being forcibly sterilized by a group of racists (or by your own people *for* a group of racists) isn't the better option for the Eldians. It's not any less violent. Moreover, you could say that leaving the world more full of a group of racists with a taste of success isn't necessarily better. If the prevailing mindset and active foreign policy of the world is kinda evil and racist...is it any good at all? Should a single nation just lie down and die since they're outnumbered? I doubt they would ever see if that way. But, most importantly, since this is at least partially also an allegory about nuclear weapons, what's going to happen to the next group of people that are deemed to have too much of a potential advantage? How far down do we go? What happens when the first country develops the first nuke? Or an ICBM? Or when someone develops X new mini weapon capable of mass destruction but carried by a single person? Is the world banding together to genocide all of them? What happens if X race is deemed to be more likely to have y genetic "advantage"? Will that be enough of a disparity for some to justify violence after all the big stuff has been crushed down? When every country has equally dangerous technology and the capability to destroy one another and peace is only held together because of diplomacy and the fear of mutually assured destruction, would the genocide of the Eldians be able to be justified, even in hindsight?

These previous episodes have shown how Eldians were hated, even outside of Marley, so many nations gathered to plan their deaths. That’s when Eren kinda lost the plot and decided to just focus on his homeland, he always wanted to see the outside world, he’s seen it and realised how complex it was so it took the only way out he had if he wanted to protect his friends and I get him 😭

Hell look the at the Tuskegee experiments where they literally injected Black people with Diseases. That’s why I side eye him every time he says he’s for the Euthanization. 2023-12-01 05:39:27 +0000 UTCTruth. It's a tough problem. Does Eren have time to figure out a different way to do it? 6 months before a global coalition is at the doorstep of Paradis. Marley alone had a military the size of the entire population of Paradis. Idk how many were killed in the Liberio raid but they still are going to have a lot. Add in the rest of the world and their advanced anti-titan tech, and their air superiority...Paradis doesn't survive that battle. I always say to look at the fight in the beginning of season 4 part 2. This is a rushed, weakened Marleyan strike force without their navy and the possibility of coastal bombardment. And they're raining death down on Paradis. It's a massacre. Machine guns from the air. Eldian bodies falling like rain. People firing bolt action rifles at airships and getting mowed down by machine gunfire. It would've been that times...maybe 10,000 or so if Grisha hadn't left those books and Eren hadn't unlocked the memories. If Paradise didn't know the enemy was an entire global civilization, everything would've gone how we saw in Marley with Willy Tybur declaring war because Eren Yeager had the Founding Titan. The difference is that the island wouldn't have known they were coming and they would've been able to launch a sneak attack with the rest of the world with Paradisians wondering why they were being killed and what this conflict was even about. Who were these other humans and how were they still alive in a world overrun by Titans? How were they so advanced? Etc. etc. with no answers til they all died. They bought themselves an extra 6 months of time with the Liberio attack. Would that be enough to do diplomacy across the world? Enough to decrease the prejudices of these people? Enough to set some people up to be safe from the Rumbling? Maybe. Maybe not.

I think part of why Zeke is so for that plan is cuz some of the self-hating ideology of his mentor got to him. his mentor couldn't deal with the guilt of being the reason his whole family was killed and the solution he came up with was that he should've never been born. this whole cycle of violence is sad and it is the reason why the children of the Forest episode is my favv

And Zeke has internalized their racism and the pain of their oppression so much that he equates living to experiencing that pain. So he wants to never have been born and for no other Eldoan to have been born. So he wants to kill his own people. Just too chicken to do it violently. In the end, though, the racists would get what they want: a world without Eldians. Would you be ok if a racist regime secretly poisoned their oppressed population instead of just killing them? What if they disguised it as medical treatment and the people didn't know they were being sterilized? Would it be different if they forcibly did it instead? I think it would still be wrong no matter what. That's why I can't support Zeke's plan. They could just leave you alone and stop being racist but no. They don't get to have you just roll over and kill yourself so they don't have to.
