2023-03-23 21:02:03 +0000 UTCI think people should look a music a bit more artistically at times and interpret it sometimes, so you can see the meaning of the autotune in specific parts. I understand not liking autotune, but it's not overpowering the song, nor is it covering up his voice, it's done with purpose when he's "breaking his character image" that society has built up around him. There are a LOT of artistic things done in this song, so the people outright hating the song just because of the autotune or purely listening to the song for enjoyment and that's fine but personally you're missing out on the message. :/

2023-03-23 02:50:20 +0000 UTCYeah the autotune discourse on twitter was brutal. Set Me Free (pt1) was a track on Agust D's D-2 album. Nevermind is the tattoo on Jimin's ribs that was taken off Yoongi’s song Nevermind. There were a few Easter eggs like the line from On (go insane to stay sane) and lifting Jimin at the end (like in Lie choreo). I love the lyrics and the artistry of the song as it perfectly encapsulated Jimin's journey to self-love.

2023-03-22 22:13:58 +0000 UTCI think people need to keep an open mind regarding BTS solos, the image you have of them and what you think fits them might not be how they see themselves or what they want to explore in their work. and the autotune discussions, how do people feel when it's used in western music because numerous artists use it. I don't even see this level of backlash. It's understood as a stylistic choice. It's ok not to like something, but when you act like you know what fits the artist more than themselves that's something else.

2023-03-22 16:22:33 +0000 UTCalso, in case you guys were wondering, Jimin has several tattoos. his biggest one is the one on his ribs, it says „Nevermind”. a fun fact about that one is that he had it as a fake tattoo in a performance, and a few years later he got it tattooed for real. he has „young” and „forever” on his arms, he has a 13 (his birthday) on his wrist, „youth” behind his ear in cursive, a 7 on his finger (all members have the 7 tattooed) and his entire spine from top to bottom is covered in stages of the moon tattoos.

I'm not surprised y'all liked it, considering you guys actually listen to a variety of music and understand that autotune is a stylistic choice sometimes that adds texture lol. ALSO set me free is from yoongi's album D-2 jimin realized they were talking about the same topic and feeling, so he named this set me free pt. 2. BTS did the same thing with making airplane pt.2 from hobi's airplane.

2023-03-22 12:20:25 +0000 UTCto add to this, when you see the little characters (bt21) covering their stomach in behind the scene stuff, it's usually because it's accidental or just something in the bg and maybe the boys didn't peep the camera. The company/editor doesn't wanna invade so they just add the member's bt21 character to cover it. BTS wiping sweat off after practice and their shirt lifts BOOM you're looking at koya (namjoons character) and not joon's stomach.

2023-03-22 08:42:49 +0000 UTCI had no issue w the autotune. ofc, it was something to get used to compared to how Jimin's voice usually sounds but I love the song the more I listen to it. especially when I knew he could kill it w and w/o autotune either way. I can't imagine him saying, "hey fool, get out of my way!" without the heavy autotune representing his inner feelings and really emphasizing how angry he is at people hating him (or bts). He controls the autotune, not the other way around lol

2023-03-22 08:08:26 +0000 UTCThe autotune was an artistic choice to express Jimin's voices from within him. It was so heavy because the voices are supposed to be aggressive. His singing is his response to that. Just wanted to leave a few things here for you guys: - When BTS debuted, Jimin was 18 and ripped. Because he looked so good physically, they made him show his abs in videos and stages. He has said numerous times how pressured he felt to maintain that image. Over the years he went so far as to diet extremely (not eating for several days and passing out), just to maintain a good body image because he felt pressured. Since then, luckily, he has told fans he will never do that again and he finally feels better with himself now and works out for fun now. so it's really cool seeing him show his body again confidently this time and on his own terms - the writing on him (it's not a shirt haha) is a German poem related to the message in the song - i think this song is literally just Jimin saying `i will do what I want now, set me free from whatever you expect of me`. I think his next single is more of a sexy club type of song, more his style. this song was a transition from people's expectations to that

Basically in Korea, for televised shows or performances, there are very specific rules about which body parts you can/can't show, not showing tattoos, not allowing certain types of provocative dance moves or certain types of revealing clothing, swearing etc. If you break these rules, then you will get fined. You'll also see that when the BTS boys appear on shows, all brands which aren't sponsoring them at that time need to be censored too. The rules are different depending on context...so for example the dance practice which is going on YouTube is not televised on on mainstream TV, so nipples and tattoos aren't censored. Tricky, huh? I'm sure most ARMY would give you the most obvious example of when BTS did a performance and several members had wardrobe malfunctions so they continued dancing while trying to cover nipples. You'll also see them jump into pools fully clothed for shows, but that's more because companies often try not to release shirtless photos/videos unless it's a concept for promo or a specific shoot.

They are too use to the mainstream music that literally is just mumbling with no substance to the lyrics of the songs. To me it sounded like the repetitive chorus is speaking volumes to how he is really fighting everything he has to be set free. Kinda like someone trying to believe they are going to make it through while in the eye of a hurricane storm. I was always told that if you speak positivity and think positively, you will see positivity in your life. He said he wrote this song when he was lost and depressed. So i’m sure when he wrote the chorus it was like he had to repeat and continuously tell himself to set himself free from all the negativity, depression and to understand that he is free to take on whatever life throws at him despite not having a clear direction? But that’s just me speculating and possibly reaching. Or i could just be a really deep thinker and overly think things. But I honestly think people who are nitpicking at things like the autotune is thinking too superficially about the song and not really thinking deeply about why he made the song the way he made it. Like in the MV, people pointed out he had a german poem in the form of tatts all over his body. So i would assume it’s in connection with the lyrics to his song. Which makes the song even deeper with its meaning.

So this was basically conveying that he’s setting himself free from everything that put him in that state to have a clear and sound mind.

It's not a bad thing but obviously, there needs to be a balance between the autotune and the singer's voice which Jimin really delivered and made good use of the autotune.

If they use it well and it matches with the song's beat then I don't see a problem with it. I see it as a way to change your tone range and adds a little more flavor to the song.

But in my case I see that the auto tune was used to create a dynamic in the song ...it would have been to simple if the first verse and second verse sounded the same ...I think the voice distortion on the second verse was a good way to create dynamic. And like you guys said the beat went really well with the auto tune . People were also saying that the chorus was too repetitive. Which I disagree with .I feel like the repetitive "Set me free" was there to compliment the beat on the chorus , and not just because it's the name of the song This song is something new and it's fire 🔥
