Shiny Shark plush commission WIPs

Today's post will be long, and we're talking about a really old commission, which we have finally almost finished.

The plush is from Shiny Shark, our customer's fursona. At the beginning, this commission was going to be a repeated plush, but after all this time, the customer asked to change it for his fursona. We commented him that we would take longer to make it but he agreed. So now that we finished the Lopmons and were waiting for Pikachu's fabrics to arrive, we decided to focus on finally finishing him this week.

The character is like a shark/sergal. He wanted it proportioned, realistic. It's not the most common option in humanoid plushies, but we worked hard to make it right! The design doesn't have many details, and his clothes are only a swimsuit. So we decided to focus on making all the anatomy details.

First we made the head pattern. We got it pretty quickly. So we made an embroidery test, and his expression came out super cool! The customer said he looked sexy hehe.
Since his muzzle is so big and thin, he looked a bit derpy on the front, so we made some thread sculpt in the eyes. And it really improves the design a lot.

Once the head was done, we started to work on the body. It was the most difficult part of the plush, or rather getting the proportions right. After a couple tests, we had a good base. And we decided to use thread sculpting again to make the muscles, fingers, etc. It was a test, so we didn't pay too much attention to make it symmetrical, we just wanted to see if it worked. And honestly we liked it a lot, it gave depth and life to the plush.

With that done, we pinned the head to the body to see it all together. But then we realised that it wasn't quite right. The head was too big, it was short legged and the torso was too long, we didn't like it.

So despite having the head done, we made a smaller one. We also made some changes to the body. This time we defined the anatomy a bit more. For example, we added a dart in the back of the knee to give the leg a better shape.

A few hours later, and with the color blocking done as well, we got a good final head and body. And this time the proportions looked way better!
Finally, we did the thread sculpt, paying a lot of attention to make it as symmetrical as possible. We tried to make every detail! He looks jacked hahaha

With that done, we only had the final parts left. First, we made the shark tail. A long piece with smooth curves, with two fins at the end. It was great to see that the tail gave stability to the plush!

After that ,we worked on the ears and hair. The hair was another great challenge, because the customer liked the idea of making it with faux fur. And the head was too small to put several faux fur pieces on it. We had to think of a way to get the hair go to different directions. But after some tests, we got a good piece! Some bangs were too long, so he had a haircut and we styled the hair as well. He looks like a real gentleman ;) The customer liked the toupé longer than the concept art so he could style it, so we left it like that.

And now, with all the details done, the plush is almost finished! We're really happy with the result. We were afraid to make a plush with such "human" proportions, but we like it ^^

We only have to order the printed fabric for the swimsuit and make it when it arrives, and some hand sewing too. But we can say we're done with the WIPs.

Esperamos que tengáis un buen inicio de mes ^^

Hoy toca un post algo largo sobre un encargo algo antiguo, el cual que por fin tenemos casi terminado.

Se trata de un peluche de Shiny Shark, la fursona de nuestro cliente. Este encargo al principio era de un peluche repetido, pero al pasar el tiempo el cliente nos pidió cambiarlo por su fursona. Le comentamos que tardaríamos más por ello pero le pareció bien. Así que ahora que justo habíamos terminado los Lopmon y esperábamos la tela de Pikachu decidimos dedicar esta última semana a terminarlo por fin.

El personaje es como un sergal/tiburón. Lo quería proporcionado, realista. No es lo más común en peluches hacer formas y proporciones tan humanas, pero trabajamos duro para que quedase bien! El diseño no es muy recargado, y solo lleva un bañador en cuanto a ropa. Así que decidimos darle especial atención en conseguir todos los detalles de su anatomía.

Lo primero que hicimos fue el patrón de la cabeza. Nos salió bastante rápido. Así que nos pusimos con la prueba de bordado, y nos quedó una expresión super chula! El cliente decía que se veía sexy jeje.  
Como tiene un morro tan grande, de frente se veía algo derpy, así que le hicimos un poco de thread sculpt en la zona de los ojos. La verdad es que mejora bastante dentro de lo posible del diseño.

Una vez tuvimos la cabeza , nos pusimos a trabajar en el cuerpo. El cuerpo era lo más difícil del peluche, o más bien, sacar unas buenas proporciones. Después de un par de pruebas, teníamos una base. Y decidimos probar de nuevo con el thread sculpt para marcar los músculos del cuerpo, dedos, etc. Era una prueba así que no hacía falta que quedase perfecto y simétrico, solo queríamos ver si era suficiente. Y la verdad es que nos gustaba muchísimo, le daba profundidad y vida al proyecto.

Hecho esto, probamos a ponerle la cabeza para verlo entero. Pero viéndolo en conjunto nos dimos cuenta que no estaba del todo bien. La cabeza era grande, se veía paticorto y el torso largo, no nos convencía.

Así que, aunque teníamos la cabeza lista, decidimos hacerla de nuevo y encogerla un poco. Y, de paso, hicimos los cambios necesarios en el cuerpo.
En esta nueva prueba de cuerpo perfilamos un poco más la anatomía. Por ejemplo, a las piernas les añadimos unas pinzas detrás de la rodilla para marcar más la forma.

Unas horas de trabajo después, y haciendo ya el cambio de color, conseguimos una nueva cabeza y cuerpo finales. Y esta vez vimos que las proporciones quedaban muchísimo mejor!
Finalmente le dimos más atención y cuidado al thread sculpt del torso para que fuera correcto. Intentamos cuidar todo detalle! Se ve super mamadísimo jajaja.

Hecho esto, solo quedaba añadirle las partes finales. Hicimos por un lado la cola de tiburón. Una pieza con unas suaves curvas y aletas al final. Y fue una gran alegría ver qué esta pieza le daba estabilidad al peluche!

Después nos pusimos con las orejas y el pelo. El pelo fue otra gran dificultad en el peluche, porque al cliente le gustaba la idea de ponerle faux fur. Y claro, era una cabeza muy pequeña para hacerle varias piezas de faux fur. Teníamos que ingeniarnos la forma de darle varias direcciones al pelo. Pero después de unas pruebas, conseguimos una pieza buena! Los mechones eran muy largos , así que toco hacerle una sesión de peluquería y arreglarle un poco el peinado. Y se ve un verdadero galán ; ) El cliente nos dijo que lo quería más largo y denso que en el concept art, así que lo dejamos así.

Y ahora sí, con todos estos detalles, tenemos el peluche casi terminado! Estamos muy contentas del resultado. Nos daba algo de miedo hacer un peluche con proporciones tan humanas, pero nos gusta^^

Solo falta pedir la tela estampada para el bañador y hacérselo cuando llegue, a parte de un par de costuras a mano. Pero podemos dar este peluche por "terminado" en cuanto a WIPs se refiere.
