Clodsire WIP 5: Mochi test

ENGLISH/ESPAÑOL

Hello everybunny!
After finishing the patterns and embroidery for the minky Clodsire, it was time to make the mochi test. Like we said, we want the pattern reward to be for both types of fabric and in two sizes: 20cm and 40-50cm. And our idea is to make the big one directly with mochi, so it will be super squishy.

Mochi fabric has a similar quality to minky, with shorter and softer fur. But the biggest difference is the stretchiness. Mochi fabric is way more stretchy than minky, and on top of that, it stretches both ways.
We had read that some plushmakers said that because of that, the patterns could change a lot. So we decided to make the mochi test in small size first to see how much it changed and if we needed to adjust the patterns for the mochi version before scaling it up.

The first thing is that, for the embrodiery, we decided to use a thicker stabilizer. Since it's such a stretchy fabric, the stabilizer we use for minky could give us problems. And luckily, all the embrodieries turned out good!

After that it was time to sew it. We saw that being such a stretchy fabric, we couldn't sew it like we sew minky. So we did some tests with different needles, stitch length and other parameters in order to find the best way to sew it. It was difficult with the first pieces, but at the end we got confident and found the right parameters as well as some tricks to make perfect seams with this fabric :D

And the last thing was stuff it with the mochi stuffing. It's a different stuffing than the one we usually use, way softer. At first, it seemed like the plush was eating a lot of stuffing, because mochi stuffing is very thin and can be compacted a lot. But at the end we didn't even use a full packet of 130g, which is good.

With this first test finished, we have to say that we are surprised by the result! It turned out with the same shapes and proportions as the minky one, and it even looks more adorable and accurate. We were also surprised by the size. It's way bigger than the minky one, because of the fabric's stretchiness, and some curves are less defined.
That's why we wouldn't recommend this fabric for certain plushies. But for a Pokémon that has that squishy and soft appearance, it's perfect.

With the plush finished, we had to do a final test. So we squished and pressed it, and it recovered the shape without problem! Look at how adorable and soft it is!!
We are really happy that we got a pattern that works perfectly on both fabrics. And that the mochi one has that flattened effect even more. For being the first plush we make with this fabric, it turned out great ^^

With such a good test, we can make the last step: scale the patterns and make the giant version! Soon we will show you the big baby~

Finally, we found out that this fabric is tricky to sew and there are tips and details you need to know before using it. And even though we're not the most pros with it, we've practiced a lot these days. So in the next plushmaking class after this week's one, we will make a class explaining everything we learned while working with mochi fabric. This way you can use that for the Clodsire patterns! ^^

----ESPAÑOL----

Hello everybunny!
