The Descent - Movie Reaction

Comments

Isn’t there a descent 2? WE NEED ANSWERS

cloudy.apples

This movie was so creepy.

La Toya Sheri

Juno was in a relationship with Sara's husband. That's where the necklace ties in as proof. Beth confirmed it and apologized for not telling Sara

Miche

You’re gonna hate me, but I steered Caitlin away from The Visit when I told her that it was basically a horror comedy, I think she would really dislike it. But tbh it would be funny to see her react to some of the bizarre comedy that’s in it, especially all the scenes with the would-be rapper kid

Henri J. Mertens

You should watch the descent 2

Matthew Kirchberg

Dude I'm not even claustrophobic but this movie gave me a taste of it lol its so gnarly

Meghan Blust

Would love to see you react to Talk To Me when it comes to streaming!! One of my new favorite horror movies

Leon

This is now one of my favorite scary movies and I didn’t even know it existed. I love it here The only creepy thing is my name is Sarah Beth and I have a dog named Juno😂 so that was a little unnerving lol

mentallyunw3ll

I loved Juno so much, sure she made some mistakes, but she's a baddie. lol

dfq

also in case you plan on playing more games in the future i recomend both "little nightmares" games and Resident Evil 7 & 8 <3

parALICEis

have you seen annihilation? its a cosmic horror movie, verry aesthetic and one of my new favorite movies <3 would love to ssee you watch it

parALICEis

Getting stuck in a tunnel has to be one of the scariest things that can happen!

Child Of God

you should totally react to the final destination film series! def one of my favorite franchises

cait

Formally asking for a Talk To Me reaction when it comes to streamingđŸ«Ą

Tommy Daupinais

Noo she didn't, still waiting for that one 👀

Patryk Walenczak

Yep. That's the version I saw as a kid.

dontrell Durant

I thought she did that movie.... I might be mistaken

dontrell Durant

There is a reason I do not go caving anymore. As an adult my agoraphobia has gotten worse, but when I was 17, I would go to an adventure camp every year since I was like 8. One year we went “behind the scenes” caving in a big local cavern. You do all the stuff the tourists don’t get to see. I’m theory, incredibly bad ass. Until Sarah in this movie and I had the exact same experience. I got stuck twice on one trip. One was near the surface in a small little passage called the “birth canal” pretty appropriate lol. That was the easy one. Then we were crawling through to the “ amphitheater room” and it turned into a belly crawl like where Sarah got stuck. Rocks on my back, water on the ground. Then my pack got stuck🙃 I should have taken it off before going through the crawl but rookie mistake. I couldn’t reach my hands behind me to fix it since I could barely move. Thankfully I was not last and the person behind me was able to free my bag and we were able to mov some rubble so I could slide through. One of the most stressful 10 minutes of my life. I’ve never been caving again since. Fuck that 😂

mentallyunw3ll

Juno was the best character. cool she had an affair with the husband, who cares, this is about life and death, juno deserved to live.

alex

Judging from the comments, I'm guessing you missed the plot point of Juno having the affair with Sarah's husband. This should be a fun watch.

Erik Kuhnle

you need to react to youre next!!! it has smart characters so it makes for a fun watch

The Gamer's Club

Oh no I did not see this coming. She said one of my favorite horror movies was ... forgetfull. Oh no, my little horror heart. I'm ok. Imma be ok. I just ask for some space, at this incredibly difficult time!

Matt

Absolute horror classic! Neil Marshall really hits it out of the park with this one. He did another horror flick called Dog Soldiers which I have yet to watch but heard good things about. I absolutely love this movie and the story he was trying to tell. It wasn't the Crawlers that were the bad guys but the girls for invading their space and then using their survival instincts to defend and kill as many of them as they could. Marshall said he wanted to portray the fact that when backed into a corner, these ladies would absolutely tap into their savageness to survive. The crawlers were modeled after Nosferatu the vampire. Makes sense. He can't stand light; the Crawlers have never lived in light. And talk about no light. The whole cave system was a set in London! I mean, that was one hell of a set. I've spelunked my fair share of caves and that set was pretty convincing. The British ending was much better. The American version is supposed to give theater goers hope, but I don't necessarily think surviving something like that would be great! Talk about the therapy and PTSD. As always, great reaction Caitlin! Can't wait for the next one.

Raj Hudek

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT 1989 TAYLOR'S VERSION?

The Gamer's Club

Since you mentioned Until Dawn, have you watched people play the Dark Pictures games? It’s a series of games just like Until Dawn made by the same people! If you haven’t seen them before, it could end up being a blast if you gave them a try

Jack B

Juno deserved exactly what she got 😭😭😭😭 she slept with her best friends man who also had a CHILD. That’s an OPP!

Kim Daniels

I genuinely thought patreon would only show so much of the message and you'd have to expand to see my insanity.... why would patreon do me like this lol

Poorly Fleshed Skeleton

Hi! Really love this movie so I'm super glad you gave it a shot even if you didn’t love it! It was one of the first scary movies I watched when I was younger and I'm pretty sure is part of the reason I'm claustrophobic lol I did want to go ahead and explain some things about the movie because it's one that you really have to pay attention to and even then stuff can be missed with everything going on in it. There was stuff I don’t think I caught until I read an article about it delving into the movie lol. I’m really, really sorry it’s such a long explanation but I love this movie and all my friends hate horror so I don’t get a lot of opportunities to talk about it T.T At the beginning of the movie when we first meet the characters when they're rafting and Sarah and her family get sent ahead, Beth seems to give June a look after how June was with Sarah's husband, and to me it is implied that Beth knows about the affair somehow, but doesn’t say anything to Sarah about it presumably because she’s wanting June to, but then the family dies so there’s no point bringing it up. Flash forward (and we’re takin’ on the world together lol) to when they are in the cabin the night before they go down, when they're looking at a picture of Beth, June, and Sarah from one of their previous adventures Sarah comments “love each day” which she mentions is something her husband used to say. That night Sarah dreams about hearing her daughter’s laugh and then has the terrible nightmare, and then the next morning we see her taking pills. It’s implied she has had to be put on medication since the accident. Moving forward to the actual “descent.” This movie actually has two major through lines to follow between Sarah and June. Sarah hallucinates hearing her daughter’s laughter pretty much as soon as they are in the caves, with her hallucinations seeming to continue and grow worse the further down she goes. Both hearing the laugh and seeing her daughter holding a birthday cake, which I take to represent her agony of never being able to celebrate another birthday with her daughter. It’s been one year since her death, so she should have had one, should be another year older, but isn’t. This idea of insanity is also underscored by Sarah being the first person to see the wendigos (the creatures in the caves. You were probably reminded of Until Dawn because the game devs were clearly fans of this movie because they paid homage to it in a later game called House of Ashes). When she feels sure of herself, she brings this information to the group but they dismiss her and tell her she’s seeing things. The movie is building up this sense of her unraveling. When they are attacked the movie beats her down, forcing her to sit close while one of her friends is eaten next to her, and then her finding her best friend dying from a terrible wound whom she unable to help and forced to mercy kill. Before this, however, Beth tells her it was June that did this to her, and hands off the necklace as proof. This at first doesn’t quite penetrate to Sarah, but when she flips the necklace over and sees the engraving of “love each day”—the thing her husband used to always say—she realizes June was having an affair with her husband before he died, which does affect her. We do also see a visual change with her soon after when she falls into the pool of blood. She is not the same person who had the panic attack in the beginning when she got stuck, but now someone who can lay calmly, half submerged in blood, while a winding is crouching with it’s hand on her head. She is much colder, and much more brutal after this. She fights with bones and rocks, and bites a chunk of flesh off one wending before jamming her fingers into the eye sockets of another. Each encounter with the wendigos seemingly making her more and more unhinged. With June the movie works to make her look worse and worse to Sarah. There’s the affair, of course. Then June chooses to take them caving to a place no one has ever been before, and doesn’t tell anyone, putting everyone in danger for what Sara assumed was her ego. She is one of the people telling Sarah she’s seeing things when she first brings up the wendigos. June mistakenly kills Beth, but then abandons her when she’s clearly still alive and reaching for her, not bothering to stay with her to help her, sit with her while she passes, or mercy kill her. She was with Holly when she died. She was with the other two when they died. And then at the end when Sarah asked about Beth, looking for honesty from someone who’d been lying to her for who knows how long, she does not get it. A final betrayal in Sarah’s eyes. They move on, and Sarah tries to work with her to get out of the cave, but after another fight Sarah seems to decide she just can’t do it. She has lost her husband, her daughter, all of her friends, and is only left with the one person who has repeatedly betrayed her. She reveals the necklace to June, letting her know that she knows what June did to Beth, and what she did with her husband. She stabs her in the leg and leaves her behind to the same fate June left Beth to, except without the chance she could die before the wendigos find her. This final decision to leave June to a terrible fate causes Sarah to snap. When she does this she has her biggest hallucination yet, of herself escaping the cave. Even after she snaps back to reality, she slides right into another hallucination, seeing her daughter again. The flames of her torch emulating the flames of her daughter’s birthday cake. This one we do not see her come back from. The movie ends here because “the descent” is complete. The movie is about a group of women literally descending into a cave system, but also about the mental descent of a women into madness as she loses absolutely everything and is unable to cope, unable to escape her plummeting depression. When I was younger I loved this movie because of how intense and scary it was, but as an adult I love it because of the themes. Again, I’m really sorry about the long comment T.T I’m just excited you watched the movie at all and gave it a shot lol. I don’t know if you’ll find anything in this comment helpful or interesting but just in case I figured I’d share my thoughts. Plus it was fun to write lol. Anyway, excited for the edited version on YouTube and future reactions! You’re videos are so fun and have helped me get through so many scary movies I haven’t been able to get though on my own lol!

Poorly Fleshed Skeleton

As someone who has been white water rafting MANY times, it IS stressful 😂

mentallyunw3ll

This is one of my favorites but I peeped the letterboxd score and now I’m nervous. Watching tonight!

SadStuf

One of the reasons Sarah killed Juno was because she found out the necklace Juno had wad from her husband. Confirming the affair

Its ame mario

Love the reaction. Sarah’s husband had an affair on her with Juno

Michael

You don’t understand the gasp I just let out!!! I’ve been requesting this movie for months đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

john

OMG YOU FINALLY WATCHED IT

john

I would love to see you react to The Visit

Patryk Walenczak

SPOILERS SPOILERS I think Sarah should’ve actually gotten out, and that Juno should’ve been the one hallucinating Sarah’s daughter as it slowly fades out

Henri J. Mertens

If i recall correctly, you have watched the UK version whilst the US version ends right after the car jump scare as the original was considered too bleak of an ending. The US ending actually led to a sequel to be made The Descent Part 2 which was made several years later

Robbie Corrie

Insidious the red door is out for premium pay to watch, and I recommened talk to me when that comes out on dvd

Dylan Thomas Simonsen

when talk to me comes out can you watch it? its has disgusting scenes but has a great story
