PRAGERU’S EXTREMELY BAD SHAKESPEARE TAKES or, WHY I STOPPED TALKING ABOUT SHAKESPEARE (Ad-free Patreon cut!)

This video took many months to research, write, film, and edit. The subject is about something I am very passionate about: William Shakespeare and the people who use him to hurt other people.

The final video will need to pass YouTube's various checks but as patrons, you get to see it now.

Any feedback is appreciated.

The musical crossover I did with Some Jerk With A Camera is now 10 years old! We had so much fun making it, as you can see.

The original upload of these bloopers were lost to weird backend Patreon shenanigans, so here it is, reuploaded. Expect our original commentary track to drop soon!

EARLY ACCESS: The Top 20 Comic Book Movies OF ALL TIME

This is a video I've wanted to make for a while - a video essay about comic book movies disguised as a ranked countdown.

As a patron, you're getting access to this video early! The final video will need to be reedited to fit YouTube guidelines, but because of your support, you can see it as intended.

As always, I can't do this series without you. DTF stands for Death To Fascism,

ROUGH CUT: Mr Burns: A Post-Electric Video Essay

How imagining pop culture's trajectory into the future can help create a future.

This is the rough cut of the next video essay, meaning there will be some missing music, unfinalized graphics, minor edits that have yet to be made, BUT it is viewable in its entirety here on Patreon before the final version debuts on YouTube.

This video starts by talking about the 2012 play Mr Burns: A Post-Electric Play and goes through theatre history, the theory of comedy, the efficacy and practic...

A Christmas Carol: A Charity Stream For The Palestinian Children's Relief Fund

Happy Holidays my kind patrons! This Sunday, December 3rd, I’ll be hanging out with a group of very neat YouTubers as we perform a live reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol! Hosted by Sara at The Fat Culture Critic, this is an annual tradition on her channel and I feel honored to be a part of it. We’ll be raising money for the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.

I give my thanks to Sara for organizing this, and for trusting me to read for Scrooge.

Hope to see you ...

What's the Next Video? You Decide!

Hello again, all you lovely patrons!

With another video finished it's time for me to make a poll where you, the patrons, select the next video from a selection of topics that I pitch. The poll will be open for a week, after which the next topic will be announced on a stream.

For this poll I've decided to cut back on some of the options I've listed previously - not because I'm abandoning them but because I've realized that I need to flesh them out more before I could pitch them. View Post

What's the Next Video Essay? You Decide! AGAIN!

Another video essay has been made, and the ever hungrier maw that is the demand for Content commands me to make ever more. And if you think I'm worth a dollar a month, you get to decide my next topic.

As with the last poll, I plan on doing all of these ideas eventually - this poll is just to decide what I'll do next. If something isn't picked this round, it will (likely) still be on the docket for the next poll once this project is done.

Quick updates!

Hello all you lovely and kind patrons!

I've been made aware that the second episode of the Troopers Trilogy has been blocked in several countries due to a copyright claim. I've trimmed out the offending segment - the use of a clip of Bill Hicks. I figured the video will do fine without it. One it's finished processing, the video should be viewable once again. Keep refreshing here: https://youtu.be/d6o2BksW8x4

Update on work streams

This is a notice to all patrons that I'll be cancelling work streams. I've seen far too many patrons withdraw their pledges when I started doing them at lower tiers, so clearly they're not worth a perk.

Obviously I'm going to continue working on the next video, just not on camera. Well, it was an interesting experiment while it lasted.

Happy Holidays,

What's a good time for Work Streams?

Hello all lovely patrons -

I'm at the work stage where all I have left to do is edit and so I want to bring back patron-only work streams. However, last time I had trouble getting people to swing by. So, I'm going to ask you directly - what's a good time to host a work stream? (these are all in EST, since I live and work in NYC)

Also, what tier should they be hosted at? Right now it's at the highest "Unicorn" tier but I want to open this up a bit and make it more accessible ...

Update on filming

Hello, lovely Patrons!

Just wanted to give you all a rundown on how the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen video is coming.

This past month has been rough, and as much as I feel like I know the comic I’m talking about backwards and forwards, I still feel overwhelmed by how much there is to talk about with this series. From the post colonial reading that could easily be applied, to the way it comments on the nature of crossovers. And I know that I promised this would be a casual v...

THE League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Video!

This beat out The Name Of The Rose by a mere two votes, and I'm honestly glad it did.

This will be a more informal vlog-style deep dive into a single piece of media in the style of YouTubers like Jenny Nicolson (whose title format I am shamelessly ripping off). I've been obsessed with this series for a very, very long time so this might qualify...

My New Year’s Resolution

I showed my fiancé Jodie the latest draft of my script breaking down Starship Troopers. It is now over 40 pages long, includes over seven hours of interview footage, incorporates the entire filmography of Paul Verhoeven, as well as American war films, sci fi action comedies, Dutch comedies as well as home video footage. It breaks down Heinlein, Verhoeven, and also has a hefty dose of autobiography.

Jodie’s response to reading it was, “Kyle, this is a documentary.”

When Peace Broke Out: A Story About the 1914 Christmas Truce

For the Worlds Elsewhere Theater Company I edited this piece about the peace that naturally blossomed during the holidays of 1914 along the Western Front.

It was a collaboration between several members of the company: co-writers Jack Nee and Ilana Greenberg-Sud, and performers Jamie McConnaughy, Grady W Smithey III, and Maciek Nowak/Wensleydale Cheddar.

It was first streamed as part of the WE Winter Cabaret, and we all thought it would work well as its own video.
